any one know

For camera, what kind camera you need?
Waterproof? Olympus and Pentax have pocket digital waterproof camera, will cost you 300-500 bucks. I used Pentax OPTIO WP, it is awesome, i keep taking picture on raining, its work well. Even i try to take picture in the water about 1 m depth.
Geotag? i love this one, i use Nikon coolpix P6000, it will cost you around 450-500 bucks(or less depend on the shop). This will provide getotag, means provide the coordinate of your pictures. If you upload it in panoramio you can see in the google where you were take those pics. Picture also awesome! Someone review it and he said that the GPS (geotag) is not precise, but in my case (i bought 15 cameras for my survey teams), all works well.
memory sale separately, 4 GB only 15-30 bucks.
i think they just wanted us to bring a camera for charting and referance and to take pictures of what ever and thank you so much for all the info
What am I missing on all the surefire recommendations? there are other similar quality brand flashlights for substantially less money. If he has so many items to get, he may want to try and budget a little.

http://www.4sevens.com/ pretty much everything there is good. I'd look towards fenix. I'm also going to venture to say 2 flashlights. At least carry a backup micro keychain light light, if a larger backup then prefurably w/ the same batterys.
thanks for the recomandation for 2 flashlights never thought of that one lol i have a habit of loosing and breaking things. and thanks fot the other flashlight info i think i will have to budget with all this and a new baby.

Agreed. What are you going to Peru for? Will it be a survival course? Class trip? Vacation? Guided expedition? Fleeing the law?:D Some background would help.
i am going for a archeological feildtrip basicly we are following some old trading roads to learn about the people who built them and the settlments around the roads

Low jungle, high jungle, Andes????? Depending on where your site is makes all the difference in what you need to carry. If you are going to be doing any serious elevation, then be prepared for cold weather.

@seanystrangle, it is cool mate, archeological trip, whoooaaa.
I bet you, if you bring camera with geotag, you will be happy in the end. It will gives many advantages for you.
You will have a good evidence that you "really go to" that place. ;p

I'm forgot to write:
+ snake bite kit from saywer, check at Cabela's or forestry supplier.
It really help me when one of my student bitten by a green viper.

I'm interested in learning more about the green tree viper bite. Where did the person get bitten? Were you in the jungle? How far from primary care? How did the student fare while getting to care, etc.?

Actually, he bitten by that viper because of we were studying the biodiversity of reptiles in Bukit Barisan Selatan National Park, Southern tip of Sumatra Island.
He caught that viper, and accidentally bite by that viper when he tried to measure it.
The snake bite his index finger, since we prepare with snake bite kit. We directly extracted the poison. He just got dizzy for half day. Then he went well in the afternoon. No need to evacuate him.
We were quite far from medical places, our camp was about 2 hours walk from the road. Need 2 hours of driving to nearest hospital. (total 4 hours)
But, another fellow from different team with different purpose of survey suffering from mild venomous snake because of they did not bring any snake bite kit.
Myself bitten by snake several times (mostly mild venom) and i am alright. Just once bitten by the dangerous one, treated by a kind of shaman in traditional way and i am survive.

But he (the person who bitten by the snake) stung by many of wasp when we were on the way back, and we got very serious situation on that time. Since we were on the way back, we straight away to see a doctor, after he got injection and pills he went well immediately.

she said the majority of it will take place in the Andes and a little in some jungle in a valley not to sure how much of it will be she said it just depends if the trail the museum wants us to follow goes there or not so im not too sure about the elevation and what not so should i still prepare for that?

how much time would you recomend to spend using a backpack too see how it fits?

Ditch the cotton and go with something wicking, REI tech-tees are awesome, and won't break the bank
awesome thank you i will look at them

depends how far you will be hiking every day :) It's wroth the investment though, 40 days in a pack that does not fit you is 40 days of misery you will not look back upon favorably. A 40 day trip is an excursion, not just a hike. Invest some time and money in your gear. Also break in your shoes before you go, I love these bozos that buy a brand new pair of shoes for a mega hike and wind up hobbling due to blisters 3 miles later.
