I have a sweet spot for big Bowies. One of my father's childhood friends (Joe Musso) has the original one. My favorite bowie I have is the Great Western from atlanta cutlery. What are your favorite bowies?

As a Texan I am required to comment on Bowies. A bit plebian in these circles, but I like my Gil Hibben "Highlander Bowie" for big and my smaller Classic Blades Blackjack Model 1-7 (Randall knockoff and maybe not quite a Bowie). Each has served well over some years. I understand the Highlander is somewhat of a collectors item. Mine is a user.
I also have a Hibben Rambo III which doesn't really get out much though it is wicked sharp. I am watching several smiths with interest and thought to putting some big money on a custom blade.

Hmmm. I am very sensitive to overall proportion and handle styles. Example: i like the SOG Tigershark very much. Also the RamboIII by Gibben, especially the way the handle is done with that bit of ' sweepback' (bear with me, my english vocab is not perfect yet, hope you all know what i mean). I tend to dislike stag handles (not only on bowies, though).
Its very difficult for me NOT to like a bowie. Especially the more modern versions, combat style. I love big blades

But it is just my FAVORITE!! :D

Yes, I do like bowies. I have played a lot with the Western Large Bowie from Camilus. Chopped right through a phonebook, no problem. As for my preferences, I like coffin shaped handles.

Here's one of my faves from our own beknives aka Bruce Evans.

Forged 5160 and mammoth ivory :D

Ebbtide, that's a beauty, but there's no hilt? I'd be afraid of my hand slipping onto the blade in a really strong thrust.

Well maybe you should hold it tighter.

bigbore.45, that is a great piece of work! It’s intimidating just to look at the picture. :D

Ebbtide, if you ever want a similar knife you can take out and really work with, take a look at the Bark River “Rogue”, same Natchez blade and coffin handle, just not quite as elegant – but sharp.

My favorite “Bowie” is the Camillus CUDA Maxx folder ... I know, I’m a failure at this game :( But I do use my Rogue! I don’t stab people with it, so ... no problem holding on to it :)

Marked prototype :D
(I made the sheath  )

I have developed a real fondness for bowies over the last few years. For a couple of years my EDC was a Camillus Maxx Bowie.

I own both Paragon versions of Larry Harley's Battle Bowie.

My biggest prize, in every sense, is a Camillus OVB Fisk Southwest Bowie.

I had two different kydex sheaths made for it, one "southern comfort" with an optional belt loop, and one down-the-back. One way or another I like to take it with me when I'm heading out into the woods.

The Southwest is a great utility knife for all kinds of tasks. It is sharp, light, beautifully-balanced, and strong. I'm sure it would also be devastating in close combat, but I carry a handgun for serious trouble, so mine is just a particularly impressive tool. :)

I want a Randall #1 (its technically a modified Bowie) a Perrin Street bowie and the Ek#5. Love the clip point/bowie

I like big knives and bowies are great I have a bunch even have been asking for some others for christmas but I'll have to see what is under the tree.I have a big old timer that dad got in the when he was in his early days and I'm 29 so that has to be one old knife he even cut a hole in the old trailer house we lived in for years for the stove pipe for the old wood stove, did'nt even touch that old blade and this was one of those old metal roof trailers I would call that a great knife. I have one that I use made out of a large file and it works good to, I leave dads put away it's to nice to use

Anyone have agreat western from Atlanta cutlery, and if you do is it a good knife? i havnt got around to sharpen mine and try it out.

I got interested in collecting knives because of bowies. Of course then my eyes were opened to all other types of knives but here's a group shot of a variety of bowies.
