Any plans to bring back the Becker Brute?

Of all the Beckers I would like to have 3 Becker Brutes more than any of the others. I dont care if they didnt come with the sheath, paperwork, or the box.

Hopefully tomorrow I'll be doing a side by side comparison with my BK9 and the Brute I recently purchased. This is going to be a soo much fun, I'm so excited right now. I wonder how good the Brute will be...:D

get out those cinder blocks :)

and if you hate either, you know they'll sell fast (the cinder blocks ;>)

but you will love them, and cherish them, and hug them, and call them george!

You for got to mention to rub their fur the wrong way.... OUCH.
Found a Brute,good for you. I are jealous;):D

I'm the newbie here, but I've been reading about the Brute for 2-3 years. Obviously, there's something mystical about that knife that similar knives can't reproduce (without copyright infringement). Given Ethan's stance toward the Brute (at least for now) can anyone suggest a close alternative? I've been looking at the Ka-Bar 9" Combat Bowie, the RTAK, and a few others, but nothing seems to float my boat.

So guys, I'm back from the forest and but I failed. None of those wild cinder blocks crossed my path as they have become quite rare in these lands.

A friend of mine (also a knifenut for many years) and I started our trip at about 3 pm and searched for a quiet place where people wouldn't be running round screaming in the face of our knives. It was a foggy day, so the photos I took aren't that good, but I hope they do the trick.

Finally we were able to test the knives I took with me: Swamprat Battle Rat, Ka-Bar Heavy Bowie, Becker BK9 and, of course, the Becker Brute. I started of chopping on a rotting tree log with the Rat and the Brute.

The log was about 8 inches thick. The Rat easily went through the softer outer parts and so did the Brute. But when the chopping groove became deeper, the Brute proved to be a tad better. But the Resiprene handle was more comfortable than the handle of the Brute.

We went on chopping some smaller things which gave the BK9 the opportunity to show what it is capable of. A limb from a beech tree was ideal for the task..

Again, the Brute performed better than one his brethren and because I haven't had a good workout for a long time, I started to feel every muscle of my right forearm. After working with the Brute, the other three blades felt a lot lighter, but the extra weight and the shape of the blade might be the qualities which make the Brute the chopping machine it is.

Now I'm thinking about changing the angle of the cutting edges and maybe other modifications.

To sum it up: It was lot of fun, the Brute is a beast and I love my large blades!! :D

To be continued...

side by side, the BK-9 will substantially outperform a Brute. At least in my hands...
In what way? Do you mean because the Brute is larger and so more cumbersome to do finer cutting tasks? Or as in.......? Do you not like your Brute? If so I am buying unless of course you know something I don't or am over looking

I think he's referring to the BK9 being a better chopper because of the absence of a recurve in the blade. That's why I think the BK9 would be a better chopper at least.

Ethan, when you guys change your mind, and I think you will, sign me up for a Brute or 2 (a buddy is also interested). In the meantime, I will soldier on with my (Cincinatti) Machax - my favourite big knife.

i've been contemplating all kinds of lovely designs lately...

mmm, Becker Combat Ulu :) okay, maybe not :>

or a Wharncliffe utility shape... yes!

or a karambit too :) mmm, maybe not ;>

a dedicated fishing knife? mmm... maybe.

a Becker inspired (licensed?) Grohmann aka "Canadian Survival Knife" or Nessmuk type would be amazing...

or or or something like a puuko/leuko combo... oh yeah

my all time favorite thought though, is an ultimate survival bush knife concept... something like TacTul, but morphed into a more useful knife than prybar... not unlike a Jensen Evo or possibly a more aesthetic version of the CRKT large Razel but not too Tracker like. yah. big, tough, ugly... i'd buy several :}

or whatever the hell Ethan wants :)

You know what I would like to see, and I'm being serious here, Is a knife with the 3" blade of the BK-11, but with the full size Becker handle. Choice of Grivory or after-market Micarta. I love my Campanion -- truly an outstanding all-around knife -- but it's a little large for some things. Yeah ... the Necker blade with full size handles. Now that would be a knife I would definitely buy.
