Picked up a stainless steel model the other day as it was on sale at my local SW. Not 100% sold on the stainless as it's a little slippery but overall I'm pretty pleased. I don't see the Police model talked about that much and when it is it seems to be mainly the G-10 version. Just thought I'd see how many of you all have, carry or like this model? TIA

A great band, indeed.
:D
I like the Police but not as much as the Para.

You can get a lighter Spyderco, a grippier one, a better slicer, better steel, one with an adjustable pivot and screws, etc.*

But there is a reason that the SS police (especially serrated) has been one of their best sellers for a long time. Great heft, very smooth operation, very solid and a great cutter of most things. Just feels good in the hand and in the pocket. If I had to carry a Spyderco 99% of the time and use it 1% of the time, it's probably the one I might choose.

*See, among others, the Police 3 ;)

I like it.
The plain edge stainless steel handle Police was my first Spyderco. :)

A few years back, I traded a malfunctioning .38 revolver for a perfectly functioning, brand new stainless steel full serrated Police at the local gun store.
Best trade I ever made. :D

(note: I got the knife...not a malfunctioning revolver ;) )

Had one for a few weeks and sold it, it just didn't have that feel to me. I do want to try the Ulize though, the blade looks more useful and ergonomic.

I like the blade.

But detest SS handles because they are slick.

The sss(serrated stainless steel) police is perfect. Just perfect high cutting power folder

I like mine. Great knife though I prefer my Military.

( old pic, it's not nice and new anymore)

i have the ss plain edge police, a spyder edge g-10 and a sane fe stone works spyder edge. i think my favorite it the ss.

I've had several of the POLICE models over the years>> one that I had which was one of the original Carbon Fiber, Left Handed models which I highly regret trading it. I later got a regular CF handled model that I really loved until I got my hands on the ATS-55, G-10 handled version which had a full flat grind blade that I really liked.

To me the POLICE model is one Spyderco model I look at as a hard use, working man's knife. Especially the full Spyderedged versions>> they epitomize Spyderco's serrrated blades probably more than any other model I know of with the exception of the C-36 Military models of which you can't get in Spyderedge anymore unfortunately.

For Spyderco's hard use blades I do like the POLICE, NATIVE and C-36 Military models about the best IMO.

Don't have the stainless Police...I have handled them and thought they were too heavy and slippery for my taste.

I have 2 Police 3 G10 plainedges though.I love them...they are like Ultra-Duty Enduras!!!!!

I love the SS Police. I own about four of them in different steels/edge configurations. My preference is the VG-10 full SE version. I've never found it too slippery or heavy; I always found it comfortable, and along with the Military, about the upper size limit of a folder I'll carry. The only concern I've ever had is the delicate tip for such a strong folder. However, I've never broken a tip. It remains one of my favorite models, and I hope it always remains part of Spyderco's lineup.

One advantage of the SS handle for me is I can clip it on pants solidly without it tearing up the lip of the pocket. Plus, it's nice and thin.

Picked up a stainless full SE Police model from Spyderco in Golden when I was younger. It was stolen after a couple of years, and recovered a couple of years later. Then I lost it at a park while doing some bobcat work, and then found it being carried by another parks employee, but he wouldn't admit it was mine even when I identified it by a prominent x scratched in one side. That dang knife came and went and I've never replaced it but I sure loved that dang thing! It tore through anything!

That reminds me, love the Rookie as well, basically the mini Police.

Glad you brought up the ROOKIE model>> to me it might just be the most perfectly styled, perfected sized EDC model that Spyderco may have ever put out for sale. If they ever do a Sprint Run of the ROOKIE in one of the SUPERSTEELS like M390 or ELMAX or XHP I would jump on it in a nanosecond. Nothing wrong with VG-10 in fact I like the steel a lot but I already have many Spyders with that blade steel. But the ROOKIE is probably perfect for all generations>> even the older guys that go for CASE, Ka-Bar and BUCK. NOthing at all wrong with the aforementioned because I cut my teeth on those great classics.

Again the POLICE model is truly an icon of Spyderco and for very good reason>> it just won't quit selling. Even though it was literally designed for Police officers and first responders I'm willing to bet that 90% of them made end up with everyday knife lovers. Which is a good thing. I would love to see them bring back the POLICE model with different blade steels and newer handle materials. I would love to see them modify and Jazz up the POLICE model in different variations some time down the road.

Did someone say "Police Model"?

Wow! You've got an entire Police department there! So it looks like Spyderco has offered the Police in stainless and G-10 with plain edge, combo edge and Spyder edge as well as flat grind and hollow grind. Besides VG-10 what other steels has this model been produced with? I found a photo of one marked as having G-2 steel which I'm not familiar with and one of the members posted in this thread about ATS-34 which is a favorite of mine (I just realized it was ATS-55 that was mentioned, not ATS-34. I'm not familiar with ATS-55 either). Any other steel options?
