Any Police fans?

I recently got in the discontinued serrated version of the police 3 g10 and I've never owned a more fierce cutter.

Wow! You've got an entire Police department there! So it looks like Spyderco has offered the Police in stainless and G-10 with plain edge, combo edge and Spyder edge as well as flat grind and hollow grind. Besides VG-10 what other steels has this model been produced with? I found a photo of one marked as having G-2 steel which I'm not familiar with and one of the members posted in this thread about ATS-34 which is a favorite of mine (I just realized it was ATS-55 that was mentioned, not ATS-34. I'm not familiar with ATS-55 either). Any other steel options?

If you click on those images and then click on the magnifying glass, you may be able to read the tang stamps. All the steels are there. They started out using Gingami-1, although it was not stamped as such due to an exclusivity issue (the maker was already using that steel and marking for another customer). Then the lock release position was changed and the handles were beveled for the second generation. Later, they started marking them G-2 for a couple of years before the maker let them use the GIN-1 stamp. There is one with a titanium handle and ATS-34 blade, SS and G-10 in ATS-55, SS and Carbon Fiber in VG-10 and finally the P3 in VG-10.

The G-10 model was first done unlined with a saber grind blade just like the stainless model. The second G-10 model had a flat-ground blade and started with no liners, then a single liner on the clip side was added.

I figure that between lanyard holes coming and going, blade markings changing, left handed models, edge types and steel changes, I have less than a third of all the variations out there.

Thanks Yab. Did they ever do one in Damascus? I may start looking around and see what I can find to start a collection of this model. I'm liking it more each day.

This is my favourite Police ATS-55.
Can hear anyone Pollice sprint runs in 2015 or 2016?

I did not realize it was discontinued. I must have one.

You guys may also want to consider the Spyderco Ulize, which is basically a Police G10 that went off its meds.

Thanks again for all the replies/info. It's been a week today since I got my Police and I like it more now then the day I first got it.

I gave my first police (stainless) to one of my best friends. He was leaving on a peace keeping mission to Kosovo. That was in 1999. My friend was not a knife guy..... The knife never left his side during the entire mission. After the mission was over, he gave it to a German colleague. They are still friends. His colleague still has the knife.

I have replaced that knife with a Police in G10... Great big beast!

I received a SS Police from a BF member last month. I was a having a terrible time opening it because it was so slick, and it wasn't getting any better with practice. The knife came with the clip in the right side, tip-down position. I moved the clip to the tip-up position, and it made a world of difference. It is really easy to open now. I was getting worried that I had made an expensive mistake.

My Rookie is ATS55. I bet there's a Police in ATS55.

Yeah I've owned at least a couple of POLICE models in ATS-55>> during the ATS-55 era there were a lot of those units sold and they aren't that hard to find if you happen to like ATS-55 blade steel. I still have at least 4 Spyderco USERS that I rotate that are ATS-55 and my big one is the first generation C-44 Dyad. It wasn't a bad blade steel at all.

Yeah you can find POLICE models in ATS-55 in SE, PE & CE I'm sure of it. Again there is a valid reason that the POLICE is among the iconic models that have been in the main line up for years>> it's because a lot of knife users like them and they consistently sell out.

The police model was one of my first Spydie's in the 90's. I bought a SS SE and then bought a Blak-Ti Police from Ironstone. Still have a great fondness for this model.

Yes and No on the fan status. I have a Police in SS. I work outside in the heat so I am always sweating. SS and sweat just do not go hand in hand. It is a great knife and I do love it. It is also the oldest owned Spyderco I have owned. I would not mind one in G10. G10 is the main reason 95% of my knives have it as they grip very well in the summer time. I think I will have the Police engraved seeing how it would not serve me on a daily bases.

The Police WAS the Spyderco that I remember back in the 80's/90's. Honestly, never cared for it or any Spyderco knives at the time. But things change.

My buddy graduated from the LA County Sheriffs Dept back in 95 and I gave him a PE Police....He is now a homicide detective and still carries it.

I did some work for a friend and he gave me an Amazon gift card and, so I though, what the hell and ordered one. Got it this morning. Not sure if I will EDC it full time, but it will see pocket time. The SS never bothered me as I have a Harpy and a Endura.

The Police is a classic......
