A discussion on another (non-knife) forum got me thinking about something again which I think about from time to time.

Are there and tough gents knives out there?

I mean something small and completely non-threatening in appearance that is still tough? I asked over in the CRK forum a while back about the stregth of the Mnandi because it certainly seems strong (atleast in the pivot and lockup area) for its looks and size.

I haven't had a problem with my Buck 112. The lockback seems to be just as strong as the axis on my benchmade 551.

Yes, get a Chris Reeves Mnandi! THAT is a tough gentleman's knife!! Or a small Sebenza. You could also check out William Henry knives.

I think the Spyderco Kiwi qualifies, and it comes in a variety of handle materials. I'm happy with the stainless steel, though.

If you can find a Buck 500 (Duke), which is not easy, it's very close to the 112 in size, but it looks like the rest of the 500 series.

Spyderco Kopa, or Persian 75mm. The full size Persian to a lesser degree, it's a little large to be considered a gent's knife.

A great little gent knife for the money is the Kershaw Nakamura. It is attractive and built like a mini tank. It's kinda like a mini Al Mar SERE 2000. :)

I also like the Kershaw Nakamura a heck of a lot. The pictures don't really do this little knife justice. After I handled one in person I fell in love with it - I plan on getting one for myself in a week or two. (the VG-10 steel is a great upgrade for Kershaw)

If you don't have large hands, Al Mar's Osprey is a great mini knife and has a variety of beautiful handles. I also like Case butterbeans, razor-sharp right out of the box.

I have numerous gent's knives and I think that my Mini Persian fits your needs. Very solid and hefty and a wicked edge VG-10 Blade. Next in l;ine would be my KOPA nd Kiwi. All of the above are Spyderco.

I have the 500, and it would be a great gent's knife. very classy looking, and solid feel to it. like the 112 though it might be a little heavy for carrying in slacks or a sport coat pocket.

I'm confused. Are you guys seriously calling the Buck 112 and 500 a gent's knife!?

Mnandi all the way. Or, if you want something even stouter, a small wood inlay Sebenza.

These are the epitome, to ME, of small & tough gents knives!

The BenchMade HK 14210 is about as good as it gets for tough gents knives. I would rate it strongest in the lock dept. for sure. But for the $100 price tag it offers a lot for the money in other areas also. Its actually a sweet heart of a knife all around.

Queen Canoe knives
There it is! Any Queen knife will be an excellent choice. I carry a canoe or a toothpick.
And I'll toss in another vote for the Al Mar Hwk and/or Osprey.
