Any update on the spyderco bushcraft knife? Sal?

Is it available? or a proto?

i'm looking forward to seeing photos of prototypes as soon as possible!

lol. Sorry, that was just an example of something else that I made for a guy on British Blades :o Neither a prototype, or something that anyone is going to produce.

I hope to see the convex grind in the 'NASA' version ... maybe matt-CF handles, S90V blade ;) :)

Thanks for the pictures TedV. I reposted them in the wilderness and survival forum. hope you don't mind.

Good looking knife. I appreciate them using O-1, scandi grind, etc. and see it as a demonstration to meet specific segment of users - kudos to Spyderco.

My only apprehension is the weight of the knife for neck carry. Making it 3/32" and/or taper the tang to reduce weight. Thinner knife wields easier too. The finger choil could go away too with the shape of the handle already providing a secure grip forward and back. I actually hope it comes with a kydex sheath too.

That proto is beautiful, Sal!

While I get there are those that want the Scandie grind, I really wish it were full convex. More beautiful and more functional.

Anyway, can't wait to see the finished product.

I really like it. I'm a hard core "Scandi Grind Guy" so I'm really glad to see Spyderco working on this project.

Can I ask you Ron, what you favor about the Scandi grind?? For myself I find a full convex gives the most functional edge I've used (with full flat a very close second) but I've not used a grind quite like this one.

Thanks Sal.

Here are the pictures I took at the show. Perhaps Wouter (Mr.Blonde) has some better ones. Can't wait till this model makes it to production!

Here are the pics I took at this year's Amsterdam Meet:

Wouter,

Would you mind if I were to post those pictures on the BushcraftUK forum?

They look miles better than any I have taken!!:o

I was not to enthused about the Bushcraft blade until I saw the prototype.
That is so beautiful yet so obviously a spydy. I would have preferred 52100 or A2 but will probably get one anyway.

This knife looks beautifull. My only complaint is a small hole in the blade, which, since a blade is O1, is a rust collector. Quite unnecessary. Unfortunately, Sal chose a very inconvenient Spyderco symbol - a small hole. I doubt the ordinary people would associate this small hole with the Spyderco folders holes.
A simple 'Spyderco' at the blade would be much better, IMO.

The hole is not anymore a typical Spyderco symbol. There are more BM holes in a red line than 'red' Spydies - as a matter of fact, a Chinese ugly 'comet' looks to me a typical Chinese POS. I would strongly suggest to Spyderco to introduce in a Byrd line a normal Spyderco hole. And, maybe, to put a Spyderco bug on blade in red color. You know, to associate with Red China.

No, no, you misunderstand - Spydies are so wondefully scary sharp, you need that hole to put a paracord leash on it to keep it from cutting dwon everything in its path! :) :D

My first Spydie was a clip it made for attaching to a caribiner - I forgot the model - serrated edge. Never met a serrated edge that cuts as smoothly and cleanly as the Spyder-edge serrations.

I really have to get back to exploring so many new offerings by Spyderco - the fixed blade lines are really exciting! Nice work!

I like the small hole in the 52100 Mule and so far no rust even when it gets sweaty from neck wear. I don't mind the comet either ,it seems to fit a thumb fairly well.

Spydy fixed blades RULE. I have a Yang and 2 mules and want MORE!(sorry for yelling).
