any updates on the manix replacement?

I personally have mixed feelings. It's a very secure and strong lock, but it's difficult to manipulate compared to a lot of the other locks on the market due to the low amount of purchase that's usually afforded. I suppose that could be a strength or a weakness depending on how you want to look at it, but I'd like it to be a little easier to close one-handed.

My D'Allara is pretty easy to open and shut, I just have to wedge a bit of nail in there to hold the ball.

Granted, it's a lot easier to use a finger on both sides.

Maybe a caged ball bearing lock for the Manix?

As was said, awkward to access.

And on the one I had, not that secure, although it might have been flawed.

It has been an ongoing evolution. Each model a bit better. The caged ball lock on the P'kal is the latest and best. Imo, much better to use than the first ones.

It might have been a defect or something. My BBL D'Allara locks up solidly.

It is a bit funny to use, but I still like it. I haven't had a chance to handle one with a caged ball, but if the Manix comes out with one, I'm picking one up. :)

Hmm. I haven't had any issues with my D'Allara -- then again I have never tried to close it with wet or greasy hands -- which I could see being an issue. I like the idea of a 4" model as well.

I picked up my first Manix yesterday at the Golden outlet store. Old stock, must have been laying around somewhere or something. Good price and I love the knife!!! Funny that this thread came up today... My thoughts are "BEEFY!!"

Zen,

They're hand made.

Bushman,

Sizewise, it's kinda in the middle. Eric also has a drawing for a Manix2 with a 4" blade.

Thom,

Good memory. We might have found a maker for that one. :) I'll let you know after SHOT show.

sal.

YAHOOO!:eek::D:thumbup:

YAHOOO!

Sez it all!

I currently don't own any spydercos, (I have in the past) but a USA-made large folder with the aforementioned lock and G10 or CF scales would be a strong competitor. Make it with a reasonable blade:handle ratio and I'd have to pick one up.

I feel so very bad for you and a few other knife folks on their return from SHOT.

Just not bad enough to not ask you about the Tough. ;) I'm plausibly human after all.
