Any word on Wetterlings Spring 2012 24" axe?

Well if that's a 3" edge then it scales to about a 20" haft. 20 inches is kind of in a "no man's land" for me, too long for one handed use and too short for two handed. 20 inches sounds handy until you actually try to use it. I think 24 inches is about the minimum length for a two handed axe. And I think that 18" is about the max for one handed axes. OTOH, if I was going to use a 20" axe one handed I would want it to be light - like 1.25 pounds.

Yup I agree.
Ideally for me I would like the Les Stroud axe to have a 4inch edge slightly convexed cheeks, 2.25lb head weight with a hardened poll and a 26 inch handle costing $99or less.
After looking closely at the pics I am starting to wonder about the balance with the hammer poll only being half. Just guessing but it looks like it would be top heavy?
Maybe even having wobble. I do like the crude look to it though.
Available in Nov 2012 I'll have money then:thumbup:

okay, so I picked up my "Forester's Fine Axe" item W176 a couple days ago at my (new) local dealer. man, is this thing a nice, light tool. I also have a (Husky branded) Wetterlings carpenter's axe for comparison. this new toy is a bit smaller, with the same shape and style as the carpenter's axe. see pics below.

also, note that the handle is very light and rather thin. it would be perfect for a woman's hands (or a smaller man or boy). it looks and feels delicate. not in the easy-to-break-or-damage sense, but just in the proportions.

I have a feeling I'm going to be using this axe a lot for camping and such. it's long enough for chopping (barely), has a nice bit for fine work and carving, and has the tempered poll for pounding nails, tent stakes, even wedges..........best of all worlds, with the expected trade-offs, of course.

retail here was 140 bucks. of course, I got a buddy discount, but I would've bought it anyways!

pics below are comparing the regular old carpenter's axe to the "fine forester's axe". of course, the carpenter's axe is the heavier/larger head.

Any sugestions please

...the price of the universal is up there with the G-B prices. Now I'm not sure what to get next since they are similar in price I'm now torn between the Wetterlings UNiversal and the Gransfors Scandinavian Axe...hmmm...

Search online for
Wetterlings Foresters Fine Axe
now available for $90

Finally got round to photo'ing my Forester's Fine Axe, received over a week ago now.

Great feel and balance to it....really very deft in hand.

My only minor gripe is that its been hung slightly off centre....

....but I think i can live with it....for the time being....maybe....

Scruffuk, How has this axe performed for you?

From the pics it looks like the Stroud Bushman axe uses the regular carpenters axe head, by comparing the poll details.
