Any casual viewers or "smarks" here? I sorta got back into it last summer after nearly a 10 year hiatus. I think I just long for the good old days of the 80s to about the year 2000. It's definitely different now from what it used to be, but have branched out to stuff from New Japan and others and there's some good stuff out there, particularly (and surprisingly) NXT. What's your story?

I mooned Rick Flair at a party once, does that count? His daughter went to college at the same school as me. He was at at house party with her, trying to lay his old man game down on some college chicks. That had me laughing, so I though, in my drunken stupor, it would be funny to moon him while yelling..."WOOOO, I'M THE NATURE BOY." My girlfriend at the time insisted we leave shortly after. She was a party pooper for sure.

Haha this is awesome. His daughter is tearing it up these days.

I stopped watching wrestling when WCW went down . Big fan of NWA and AWA . I did watch some WWF from time to time but not a big fan . My son like watching it so I just got the WWE app and we saw wrestlmania . It's not the same . there is no one out there that can carry a good 20 minute match like back in the days .

Mania this year was actually a pretty good show. I can understand though it being a little underwhelming if you haven't been in tune with most everyone's storylines over the past few months. I thought the main event was perfect and had the feeling of a shoot fight with both guys really laying the blows in there.

If you have the wwe network, or just look on dailymotion, and want to see some true, good wrestling, good gimmicks, and good promos without the PG rated, mildly embarrassing crap that they put on Raw and Smackdown, I highly suggest checking out NXT. The last NXT Takeover special they had, the Finn Balor and Adrian Neville match was one of the best I've ever seen period. Those guys can go. Even the women's matches are entertaining particularly Sasha Banks, Flair's daughter Charlotte, Alexa Bliss, and Bayley...all better than any Diva on the main roster.

Most any modern wrestling fan today will tell you NXT is the best product out there. Also, the fans there are really into it unlike watching a Raw or Smackdown. It's HHH's baby and kinda gives you hope that if HHH completely took over, the main WWE product would be 1000x better. What sucks now is when an NXT wrestler gets called up to the main roster, they get ruined for the most part with a few exceptions. I used to really like The Ascension but they changed their gimmick to this stupid Legion of Doom knockoff and basically ruined them in their first 2 to 3 months.

Anyone else looking for some very good wrestling, search for Wrestle Kingdom 9 on Dailymotion. It's basically New Japan Pro's Wrestlemania from January this year (called by good ole JR, Jim Ross) featuring guys from Ring of Honor and other American promotions.

I may be even older than Druid..... We used to watch the locally-broadcast Wrestling At The Chase, which was actually held at the local Chase Park-Plaza hotel here in the 50s. The host-announcer was the inimitable Joe Garagiola....In the off-season from baseball.
Notable names included Lou Thesz, "Cowboy" Bob Ellis, Rip Hawk, Kinji Shibuya, "Farmer" somebody-or-other with his "Missouri Mule Kick"....
This was all great fun for us kids... We were in elementary school and the simple, good vs. evil matches made us cheer when the good guy won and groan when the bad guy won.

However......It was not very long before even as kids we realized that it was all scripted and fakery, even though the wrestling associations denied it for many years.
I suppose it has much the same appeal now as watching well-staged stunt fights in a movie or whatever.... But some folks are still believers even though the industry has been forced to admit that it's "entertainment".

I remember watching All Star Wrestling out of Canada on a black and white tv when I was a kid. Eduard Carentier, Gilles "the fish" Poisson. Lots of fun back then.

Yep, sadly kayfabe has been dead for a long time especially in the internet age. I don't think it's much different than any other scripted episodic programming, and I think people watch for different reasons. Some just like a good drawn out story, some people appreciate good technical wrestling and the athleticism it takes from those that are good technical wrestlers, some just long for the old days and that mark out moment when a legend makes an appearance such as when Sting made his surprise WWE debut late last year and finally after 25 years or so got his Wrestlemania moment this year. In day to day life, I'm as blunt as they come and a realist, but that moment was nostalgic for me. Simple things like just watching Macho Man cut promos are highly entertaining for the nostalgia factor and seeing how much the guy was really into it and how good he was with a microphone.

A lot of people including myself link wrestling to their childhood, bringing back fond memories especially going back watching old matches or seeing legends now. Back then we thought it was a shoot and wanted to believe and idolized some of these guys waiting for Saturday and Monday night to come so we can see what happened next. We watched it with our dads and they'd get into it too while our moms would ban us from watching it if they knew what we were seeing. Going back and watching some RAWs from the late 90s, you definitely don't see all the kids in the crowd you see today. In the end, it's a show and we like being entertained. Very few things in the other 1000 channels I have are doing a good job of doing that these days.

My sister-in-law has a younger cousin who was a female wrestling star on the indie circuit, as well as a TNA 'Knockout' several years ago, back when the Knockout Division was a big deal for that company.

In Alberta we used to watch "Stampede Wrestling" out of Calgary every week. Great storylines until the Hart brothers got old enough to participate; it was all downhill from there.

MWAHAHAHAHA...........the "fabulous" Moolah, Rick Flair when he was about 20, Bruno Sammartino with hair, Big John Studd and Killer Kowalski as the "Executioners"......Gorilla Monsoon and GEORGE "THE ANIMAL" STEEL!!!

.......good times, man........good times

Yep. I have lots of indy wrestler's autographs, I have autographs from the Rock and Roll Express, Hacksaw Jim Duggan, and Dean Ambrose. Going to be ringside at a WWE show later this year, hope to get a couple autographs then, too.

Nice. I was 3rd row center facing the camera at a Smackdown taping last year. Funny, my wife is a fan now and pushed me to buy those tickets the morning of the show. She thinks Dean is hilarious, and he was in rare form that night back when he was actually getting a push. First show since a Raw back in '05. Had a great time and will go to Raw if it comes here this year.
