Any wrestling fans here?

Nice. I was 3rd row center facing the camera at a Smackdown taping last year. Funny, my wife is a fan now and pushed me to buy those tickets the morning of the show. She thinks Dean is hilarious, and he was in rare form that night back when he was actually getting a push. First show since a Raw back in '05. Had a great time and will go to Raw if it comes here this year.

Cool. Dean was pretty cool when he gave me his autograph, he ran over to where I was, shook hanks with everyone, then grabbed my pen, looked at my sign (that said "team cena") smirked and mumbled "Hmph, Team Cena..." then signed it DA while spelling it out loud. He was about 5 feet away when he realized he still had my pen so he turned real quick and tossed it back to me. :D

I've only been to two live tapings. The first was at the 2001 PPV where Chris Jericho became the first undisputed champion by beating Steve Austin and The Rock. The second was a Smackdown in 2003. I think the main event in that one featured Brock Lesnar against Rey Mysterio.

I miss the cruiserweight division.

Ha I can see him doing that. I think the only guy that came by doing autographs after it was over was Sheamus. Some guy ripped off a piece of poster board and gave it to him and Sheamus smirked and looked at him like "really?"

I was at a house show in late '04 I think, and afterwards Chris Benoit and Randy Orton who were the face tag team in the main event came around and I got to shake their hands. I think they do a lot more of that at the house shows than the live shows or tapings.

Yep, I especially miss the WCW cruiserweight division. There are some guys today who'd make a hell of a division including Kalisto, Neville, Balor, from NXT and guys like Tyson Kidd and Daniel Bryan on the main roster. All these guys technical ability and athleticism is off the charts.

Speaking of Smackdown, with it moving to USA in 2016, hopefully it'll be shown live. Probably not, but with the continuity of it being on the same network it'll probably be a better show than today and I won't have to skip through half of it.

Agreed. i feel that Smackdown (and sometimes Raw) can be hit or miss. There are some shows that are so much talking, storyline and replays that there's only a few actual matches. I don't like it when they replay stuff, especially long segments, 3 or more times a night on each show for weeks.

With Neville now on the main roster, I'd like to see a real push for him, and another cruiserweight division. I doubt it'll happen, though. I get the feeling that Vince (and HHH) didn't want Daniel Bryan to be as popular as he is. Vince has too much of a man-crush on big, jacked-up guys. Buy Bryan's popularity ended up deciding that...plus his work ethic, like most of the smaller guys, exceeds that of the bigger guys. It has to, just to come out even and get a push. I don't go onto wrestling forums, so am not fully up on stuff like that, but that's my impression.

I DVR both shows. If I'm at home, I sometimes start Raw a half hour late just to be able to skip commercials and some of the other nonsense. I usually forget that Smackdown is even on so I'll watch NXT instead and sometime after will fire up Smackdown and skip through most everything.

I don't know what the plans for Neville are (should've stayed Adrian Neville) and it'll be interesting to see who he feuds with. At least (for now) he wasn't stuck with a Mighty Mouse gimmicks like some rumored he'd get.

The Ascension were supposed to be preparing for a big push after they beat the New Age Outlaws at Royal Rumble, but they've pretty much vanished since then except the Andre the Giant Battle Royale. I wish they'd put them back in their NXT attire with the true Illuminati gimmick they had and then put them with someone maybe like Bray Wyatt and they can sorta be like the old Acolytes before branching out on their own like APA did. APA was hugely over as straight ass kickers after they branched off from Undertaker.

I need to start watching NXT. I've watched it a couple of times but never started watching it regular.

And I'm with you on the name changes, why does WWE have to make everyone's names to just the last name?

Adrian Neville became Neville, Erik Rowan became Rowan, Luke Harper became Harper, and it's happened with a ton of others too.

The NXT matches can be kind of short since it's only one hour a week, but for starters I'd recommend the last two live 2 hour specials. I think one is called NXT Takeover Revolution and the other one is NXT Takeover Rival.

From what I can remember, Revolution had the debut of Finn Balor in his wild makeup. That entrance will be something whenever he makes it to Wrestlemania.

Rival had a lot of good matches especially Balor and Neville and the tag title match, and even the 4 way for the women's title was a very nice match. It's really an extremely well put together wrestling show.

I believe they shorten many names to the last name (or fictitious last name) in WWE because most people are lazy. It's easier for the announcers to say 'Cesaro' than 'Antonio Cesaro', etc. But there are a lot of guys whose names are kept whole, but those are (mostly) top-tier guys who get the biggest pushes.

I guess I'm lazy (or cheap, or both). I can't watch NXT, because I don't subscribe to the WWE channel. I used to watch it when it was still on free TV. Nowadays, I watch wrestling, but am not really into it enough to subscribe to the channel.

I also don't watch TNA/Impact anymore, since they moved to some channel that I don't get. I mainly started watching TNA out of curiosity, back when I learned my sister-in-law's cousin was a Knockout. At that time, TNA had the best women's division I've ever seen in wrestling. And they also pushed a lot of the cruiserweight-sized wrestlers a lot more and better than WWE. That changed around five years ago. Now, I have no idea.

I first started watching wrestling at 9 years old, in 1972. It was Wrestling at the Olympic Auditorium (in L.A.). Those old wrestlers included Andre The Giant, Moondog Mane (sp?), "Maniac" John Tolos, Victor Rivera, Kim Duk, Pak Song, Kenji Shibuya, "Ripper" Collins, "Haystacks" Calhoun, etc. "Judo" Gene LeBell was an announcer, and that's when I first heard of him. About a year later I got out of it, until I started watching WWE/WWF in 1999.

Jim, there's a guy on Dailymotion that uploads literally every wrestling show on TV including NXT, Raw, Smackdown, Impact, and New Japan including the PPVs. If you have a Google Chromecast and the Dailymotion app on your phone, it's very nice.

That's how I used to watch NXT because I felt no motivation to spend $10 a month for the network. I did buy it for this month only because I wanted to see Mania live but still plan on canceling soon. I've found that on the Network, they put most all the DVDs they've put out in recent years on there. I watched the Legacy of Stone Cold doc over the weekend and the My Name is Paul Heyman, CM Punk Best in the World, and HHH Thy Kingdom Come docs in recent weeks, and they were all great. The wife has even enjoyed them.

As a big Atlanta Braves fan, WCW Saturday Night would come on right before the Braves game in the early to mid 90s and I'd watch some but never paid much attention. I really got into it in late 96 or 97 when the NWO formed, and still remember what I was doing the night Goldberg beat Hogan on Nitro in summer 98 for the belt lol. Why that wasn't a PPV match, I have no idea. I went back and forth between Nitro and Raw for awhile till maybe 2000 when WCW got more and more stupid in their writing, and I pretty much went to WWF for good till maybe 2002. I had a roommate in 04 that was mega into it so I got back into till about 06 and felt it wasn't the same anymore.

Thanks!

I actually don't even own an iPhone, so I won't be able to access that yet, but that's good to know.

I almost forgot, when I started watching wrestling again in '99, I did switch channels back and forth between Raw and WCW Nitro. I think I found Nitro on accident one night while channel surfing during Raw. Overall, the Nitro by that time was nowhere near as good as Raw. After not too long, I kept the channel on Raw.

This may sound like blasphemy, but sometimes I toy with the idea of stopping watching wrestling again. I still find it entertaining, though. When it stops being entertaining to me is when I'll quit. Certainly if WWE takes both Raw and Smackdown off of "free TV" (which really isn't free) to the WWE channel, it'll be sayonara. :)

Dailymotion.com

You can watch on your computer in your Internet browser. :)

And if you do pick up a Chromecast, you can cast the picture in your Internet browser to your TV.

I used to watch NHK Sumo highlights on a local Korean-language TV station.

Jason's All-Sumo channel on YouTube has English-language commentary.

Smackdown was pretty good tonight. I'm liking Sheamus vs Neville. They should use that instead of Sheamus vs Ziggler.

I watched the NXT replay while I ate dinner since my team wasn't playing. Decent show. Enzo and Cass were the highlight as usual. I put Smackdown on briefly and only cared about watching Neville. He might be the best thing they have right now. Neville vs Rollins will be a great match in the future. I let the rest of Smackdown play in the background while I worked on a backlog of sharpening I have...everything else was kinda meh.

Yeah, Neville is definitely the best thing now. I just wish they would allow him to not do the big gymnastic frontflip things across the ring every match. Makes it look more staged.

Seems Neville will be doing that in every match now. It's part of his moveset. No different from Daniel Bryan climbing the corner and backflipping over his pursuing opponents, Dean Ambrose bouncing off the second rope into a clothesline, etc. I'd like to see WWE let him start actually winning. He had a match with Seth Rollins already, and was being dominated by Seth.

Then again, Daniel Bryan started as mostly a losing wrestler, and look at him now. It's hard to say if Neville will develop the personality to go with his obvious in-ring ability. Keep in mind I haven't seen his work on NXT (yet), so don't know if he has the mic skills or not.

Jim

With Daniel Bryan being out indefinitely for awhile and maybe for good soon, maybe this will allow someone like Neville to shine. I think I've only heard him speak once, and he didn't exactly ooze charisma.

To me he's a guy that'll get over based on his ability, like Cesaro (even though WWE supposedly edits out cheers for Cesaro and stopped him from doing the Cesaro Swing for awhile due to getting a big pop as a heel) rather than someone who mostly talks and cuts promos well (Enzo and Cass in NXT best promos out there, awesome on the mic similar to New Age Outlaws, so-so in the ring though I feel part of the gimmick is Enzo being average and getting stomped while Big Cass bails him out).

Just watched this weeks NXT, really good show. I'll be watching it more. Enzo was pretty funny, and the main even was excellent.
