Not sure really where to put this so mods if it's in the wrong place my apologies. Ok that being said , I'm the type of guy that will see a knife and haft to have it, but when I get the knife and the newness wears off, or I see something else I want more I put the knife up for sale or trade on the exchange. I haft to say probably 98% of the members here are good honest people this thread/rant is not about you. My issue is when you put that dreaded For Sale or Trade in your in sales thread because you know whats coming, somebody is going to offer you a $100 knife for your $200.00 knife. I've been offered clothes , shoes , all kinds off whacky off the wall stuff for my knives in the exchange, So i make it a point (usually) if I even accept trades at all to say that low ball offers will be ignored, and try to come up with at least some sort of list of the knives I would consider trading for, but at the same time I always say I'm open to offers of equal value . That's the keyword here EQUAL VALUE but it never fails someone is going to offer you their knife worth 50% the value or less of the knife you have up for trade /sale. So what is the communities view on this?? You think the people who do this are just clueless as to the value of certain knives, or do yo think it is deliberate and these people think that maybe they will get lucky and get over on you??? The standard answer would probably be well then just say NO TRADES, and I have done that on occasion, but again MOST of this community, at least in my experience , are honest people and I have gotten a lot of great knives that I would of never even considered buying had it not been for a trade offer. My issue is with either the wanna be scammers or clueless members who either have no idea of what certain knives cost, or think that you are stupid and they can pull one over on you and hopefully get your quality knife for their junk. Bottom line please do your research before making any offers please!

that is life get over it. if I like the knife but I think you have it over price I am going to give you want I am willing to pay for it. you don't have to take it. just in your post say the price and make if a firm price no offers. see?? that solves the problem.

Waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Sell somewhere else. Oh wait, it'll happen everywhere. Don't sell ever again. See, I solved your problem.

It sometimes bugs me, but I know it comes with the territory. A lot of newer members don't know the best places to shop for knives, especially benchmades and ZTs. They buy them at MAP, and assume that is what they're worth. These folks just need a bit of education.
What gets me is the few members who's activity here is almost entirely "email sent" and they are just fishing for suckers and lowballing everyone. These folks are pretty much just spamming the forum with their insulting offers. If they try me more than once I'll just ignore them.
On the flip side, I had one guy offer me what he described as an old benchmade balisong that he paid about $150 for in the 90's. He figured it held most of its value... It was a benchmade 43, and I made sure he knew it was worth significantly more.
Most of us are here for the community, but there will always be outside scammers trying to take advantage. Best we can do is look out for each other.

My post is for the people that IMO are deliberately trying to scam someone out of their knives, sure you don't haft to take the offer, but people always trying to get over on someone is aggravating to say the least, and Richard FWIW that list of discounts you gave me I have passed it on to about 15-20 people but I lost it for myself can you resend it please?

Yeah, I have put knives up for sale at a price I was sure nobody would haggle me on....... and I always get an offer of $10 less or something. It's just the way of the forum, someone sees something they really want and can't quite afford it, so they send a low offer. I've taken low offers once or twice just to get rid of something I know I wouldn't use. I find it a bit annoying, but I just respond with "no thanks".

It's one thing to offer $10 or $20 less than the asking price if it's a bit high, but I think 50 percent of fair market value is just rude.

So, Allen, are you referring to my offer on your Strider SMF?
I think $3.27, half a pack of Trident Bubble Gum, and 2 "Forever" stamps was decent. I guess I miscalculated a bit....

:D

I was talking about trade offers as a matter of fact but people wanna talk about manhood and say waaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhh to me when I'm speaking of people offering others a $100 dollar knife for a $200 knife, never once did I say Oh my god someone offered me 10 bucks less than my asking price you scammer! Big Big difference

I really think it's to subjective to say what a lowball offer is? I mean we all have our own definition right?

I saw a knife I wanted once in the exchange listed for slightly more then what I knew I could buy it for new retail at one of the well known dealers. Why would I want to pay full retail for a LINB or slightly used knife when I could buy it new for less right?

I made what I thought was a reasonable offer (10% less then full retail) and got back a somewhat nasty e-mail accusing me making a lowball offer. I sent the person back a link to the site that was currently selling it new for less and explained that I thought my offer fair and if he wasn't interested fine but I wasn't trying to take advantage and didn't appreciate the accusation.

My point is some people expect to get what they paid for a knife even though they have used it. Some even want more even though it's not rare or discontinued, and many are asking very reasonable prices. It varies greatly.

Something else I've seen is some people really don't know where to get the good prices and over pay and think their knife is worth more then it really is.and are insulted when you make what you think is a far offer because they just don't know any better.

I've also gotten some ridiculous offers myself too though, like a recon 1 for my NIB limited edition BM AFCK. That I just ignored. So, I know what you mean but overall It's tough to really say what a low ball over is or isn't because we all have such different opinions.

I never owned a Strider that was a different Allen R, but he told me you also offered him your old sneakers too :D

Allen, you are truly clueless about this whole buy and sell thing, right? If I want to sell a Benchmade Dejavoo that I paid $130 for 2 years ago, I cn ask whatever I want for it. If, say, I want to get $100 for it, then that's what I'm asking for it. If you message me and offer me $50 because you put that value on it on your mind, and I think it's worth $100, then all I have to do is say, 'NO'. End of Issue. Now, if I say 'YES', then you didn't scam me. You just made me an offer I felt was fair. If I sell a Sebenza for $50, and you buy it for $40, did you scam me? Nope. I maybe should have done my homework on the value of my knife, but I sold it for what I thought I could get, and you offered me even less, and I accepted. Fair deal all around.

Never go into sales, Allen.

Meh, its not like you are forced to take the offer. The value of a thing is what that thing will bring and that value is dependant on lots of things

Right...

Alen, trades are just sales with stuff taking the place of money. You'll be surprised what some people will trade for. If you don't wanna trade with someone, you don't have to. If you think you're $20 Winchester Bowie is worth trading for a Benchmade Nimravus, NIB, then hold out there buddy. You never know.

You might want to just avoid the exchange. You don't seem to get the idea.
