Anybody else stand all day for their job? - what shoes are best?

Tactical Research “Fat Maxx” boots are about the most plush I’ve found.

I have a pair of boots I use now....which are great...except that my foot and the boot are slowly becoming one...

So, I need a pair to alternate...

I spend most of my day standing. Not walking...not sitting (except when at the computer...:D )

A light shoe is not necessary....nor do I need steel toe boots. But I do need something tough and durable.

Any suggestions?

Dan
If sneakers are acceptable, I swear by Hoka 1-1s, I wear the gaviota, which is their motion-control running shoe (i.e., for the large, flat footed runner, which I am). I got my work boots wet one day and went to work (retail manager, so 10+ hours, 8-15 miles walked in a shift). I never went back. Plenty of room, no pinch points, great cushioning. If boots are a must, Rocky brand is the one I can stand the longest, although they take a month or two to break in.

You really need to get your feet measured and get the right size shoe. I need an 11.5 B width shoe and New Balance and Red Wing are the only brands where you can get narrow or wide sizes. I would look at both of them, but get your feet measured or scanned to get the right fit & support.

If you go to Red Wing they now have a scanner to give you a 3D view of your feet.

Wow, I just realized that Daniel Koster of Koster custom knives seems to have dropped off the face of the internet. Anyone know what happened?

I'm in my 70's and have tried all sorts of shoes over the years since I left the Army. Squishy shoes are comfortable for a couple days but no support. What I ended up wearing, decades after they went out of style, are Doc Martens. They have stores, but I ordered off the internet. You have a choice of shoes produced in Indonesia or somewhere (my shoes cost $170 MAYBE). Docs made in England are like $100 more.

I went with shoes, not boots, and brown color. They all come with these thick transparent soles (they look fine) that I cannot wear out AND are super comfortable AND have support.

If you want, I'll take some photos but photos should be all over the internet. Mine have the yellow threading holding the uppers to the soles, and they look cool. The only downside is that they are coming back in style and kids stop me all the time to compliment my shoes. lol

I have one of your knives and applaud your talent and attention to detail and now to shoes. I struggled for a long time with foot pain. For several years I wore SAS brand shoes because I knew many postal workers use them. The style I settled on looked like orthopedic shoes but at that point I didn’t care. I no longer have to spend long durations on my feet but still have Birkenstock inserts in my shoes and wear their slip on sandal type shoes for house shoes nowadays which keeps the issue under control. I also don’t go barefoot on concrete or hard surfaces period.

Bit of a late post, but check out Solovair. They're just doc martens, but way better made. They made Doc martens up until they split off in the 90s and doc's started having their shoes made in Asia. So if you want better leather and better support, pick some up,

I found these slip on sketchers at Costco. They are fantastically comfortable, have some kind of memory foam or something like that. It was 16 bucks too. I'm buying another pair when I go again.
Also got these viktos shoes that are just as comfortable, but much pricier.

Mephistos! French. If you can find a style that you like, the comfort is at another level!
