Anybody find the 110 a little too big for EDC?

Buck 500 is my Goldilocks size for EDC.

I can't cope with crap on my belt. The 110 and 112 are too thick for pocket carry.

Happily, I prefer the drop point of the 500 over the 110 and 112 for just about everything.

'Course, people have different lives, different days, different days, different knives.

Love my 501.

A little off topic but I had a 110 stuck in my back several years ago. At that time, I felt the 110 was way too big. ;)

I carried a 112 for many years before I got my first 110. I like both but prefer the 112, for style, size and just a bit of nostalgia, too.

Nope. I carry a 110 as an edc. The 112 seemed to light and a tad small. Wouldnt go back to the 112 after carrying the 110.

I've edc'd a buck 110 ecolite paperstone since Christmas. Doesn't quite have the same class as the original, but after carrying the 110 size blade, I too find it hard to go back to the 112 size blade. The ecolite 110 is the best riding pocket knife I have ever carried. It rides vertical in my pocket. I've started carrying a swiss army knife in my other pocket because the kids are always needing a toothpick or tweezers or they get a toy and it seems like all toys are screwed into the box with a Phillips and this way I'm not tempted to use the 110 as a screwdriver or prybar.
But the 110 ecolite, as big as it is actually rides better than the small 2 layers swiss army knife, because the 110 rides vertical and the Swiss army falls down in the bottom of my pocket horizontally.

What kind of nostalgia is with the 112?

Good question! Given to me in the late '70s by my scoutmaster when I made Eagle, I carried it many a year. No engraving or anything fancy, just a stock one, off the shelf. But I liked it from the moment I opened the box. Carried it mainly in the belt sheath, sometimes in my pocket. Semi-retired it when I got a 102. Mostly-retired the 112 when I got a Bucklite and then a 110. Though I rarely carry a 112 nowadays, it is still one of my favorite knives, a real workhorse.

I was thinking way out there with the nostalgia thing. I was thinking that it was a vital part of some major battle.
Guess not. :p

Low weight definitely helps with pocket carry. I thought I would love the Ecolite 112 but found it a tweener knife. Too bulky for the pocket despite it's weight (the 500 is slimmer) and not really long enough to ride more upright, as you describe. I tried the Large Bucklite Max (with the pocket clip removed) and that was very nice but the knife died too fast, as it lacked the metal liners of the Ecolite (among other things). A drop point and slightly thinned Ecolite 110 would be very nice.

I generally carry a drop-point Opinel #9 paired with a Leatherman Micra for roughly the reasons you mentioned. The Buck 500 is as close as I can get to the Opinel's balance of large size and pocket carry and is my most carried knife after the Opi.

I have a one from 1970's with the squared bolsters and that thing is a pain to have in the pocket. Don't get me wrong I love my 110 but I find it to large to have as a EDC knife. I do carry it when we are in the woods for light cutting tasks :)

I have a 1969 110 and it is much slimmer and feels lighter than the ones in the 70's. The bolsters don't seem quite so square as the later ones. I wish they would have kept them like that. I tried a 500, but I can't for the life of me keep it in my pocket. That is the most slippery knife I have ever tried to carry. For me it is too slim and the bolsters are too slick. I kept losing it in the breakroom at work when I would kick my feet back and the same thing at home in the recliner. I finally retired it before I lost it for good.

LOL, no major battles, just a good knife that served me well, rain or shine, that accompanied me on many a trip into the woods.

Yup.

An Ecolite version with a lanyard hole though... that would stick.

I carry one all the time,it's perfect and I must say I get a kick out of the folks claiming its too heavy.think about it,when is the last time you were out on a walk, and stopped because your nice was wearing you down because its too heavy.folks that can't carry a 110because it's too heavy .lol

Depends on where I'm going around the house or farm I have the 100 in it's sheath If I go out then I carry a 703 in my pocket
