Anybody here like Smith and Wesson knives

ArchAngel,
while yes The upper echelon of S&W caved in to Klinton and his Cronies guess who's suffering? not the office workers but the people who are working on the floor, you know the ones, they're called "blue collar"
workers that didn't have a say in that decision, I lost my job there after 25yrs because of some imbecile sitting in an office.
so while it's very nobile of you to want to see them go belly up just remember that the people who are losing their jobs are as AMERICAN AS YOU.
BTW doesn't S&W have a plant in Houlton?

Well put, laserman. How many Generals do you see at the front lines ducking lead? Best of luck to you.

As a general rule S+W makes and always has made very marginal knives. But I'm a value oriented guy when it comes to tools I'm going to use and abuse. I don't carry around a Microtech Halo to open packages, sharpen pencils in the shop and so on. I want a decent knife that carries well, stays sharp, has some backbone, opens smoothly and locks up tight that I don't mind abusing or even, heaven forbid, losing.

I have found the S+W CARBON FIBER SWAT at about $35.00 (dealer) to be a great general purpose everyday carrier that fits the above criteria.

As knife VALUES go I'd have to say it's one of the few S+Ws I'll admitt to owning.

I don't like most of their knives. They just lack the quality and originality for me to even want to take it out and say,"Look at this new knife I got, guys."

However, I have purchased, and still carry(on occassion) the CF SWAT knife. I felt this was a decent purchase on an OK knife. It stays reasonably sharp, opens quickly, and hasn't failed a spine-whack test. On the spine-whack, I haven't beat the heck out of it, but reasonable pressure. I'm sure I could make it fail with enough repeated beatings.

Overall, though, I think they(especially this model) can be a good beater, and I would never think twice about using it as such.

To reiterate, there has been only one S&W knife that I have purchased. The rest just aren't good enough to even display, IMO.

I have a S&W Special Ops part serrated black blade Tanto in front of me now. I used it for a lot of cutting in Tesco a few years ago on the night shift, it stayed sharper than my Gerber EZ-OUT ATS-34 folders and the Tanto tip made a great Stanley knife blade. The knife has some moderate play, but it makes for a great beater. I like them.

I bought their whistle neck kife for offshore fishing. Good knife to have if you get caught in gear or fouled line and go in, have to cut yourself out and summon help at night so the guys can get a light on you.

Then I learned about the design rip-off, the whoring of the S&W name on anything and everything to make a buck and the corporate easy out at the expense of out constitutional rights and I said to myself, "Self, this is a bunch of cr*p" and never bought another again; nor will I.

There a good beater and won,t put a dent in your pocket buying one i think the swat line is pretty good but still a beater
