I like Dune...just not the movies.
Yeah, me too. After Dune and the first one or two(?) after were okay, but the rest of the books just became a way too make money for the Herbert Family IMNSHO.
It was sorta like Von Daniken (sp?) and his Gods from Outer Space books. Chariot's of the Gods? The first couple would make you think and the rest became replays of him repeating himself.
Horribly dissapointing.:grumpy:  :footinmou

I liked the parts where they used the Maker Hook's and rode the worms.
Also the part where Paul covered his body with the sandtrout and began his metamorphisis. :D :p

One cool part of the movie was where they were all in a subterranean chamber and there were vats of cool still water as far as you could see, that is unless I was dreaming that part.
I found the movie very difficult too watch.:p :grumpy: :(

Nasty, Yvsa, and Jebadiah Smith are in cahoots with the guy who wrote dune. Nobody else here likes Dune. :grumpy:

Anyway, the book I have linked for you guys to download is MY book.
I wrote it based on the original Frank Herbert books.....

217 pages of hard work and study. Please share it with a special woman in your life.

I first saw the Smithe verision (4 HOURS!) first. It was sometimes shown as a two part late night movie on network TV. Then I read the book; then I saw the Lynch version(2 hours) on VHS. The book is best, but I find the Smithe film fascinating. The Short film is only good as an into to the book.

And the recent series done by the SCI-FI channel was horrible. William Hurt was one of only TWO people that could ACT in the show. I could barely tell the different between Paul and Feyd. Same with The Great Gatsby remake. Mira S... was the only talent. The two main characters (Gatsby and his friend Nick) seemed as if they were played by the same guy.

First three books were great. Re-read many times.

I agree with the dog.

Movies made me want to murdalize the people who made them.

I am not part of any conspiracy. I do not CONSPIRE. I "glow." :)

Dune (first book) was great, the rest of the offical series went downhill fast. Oddly enough, I have been enjoying Brian Herbert's prequels. They are much more mass-market books, but strangely entertaining. Just enough of the interesting Dune tech and history to keep one interested, in the middle of an average adventure book.

If you're looking for an interesting series on terraforming, try Robinson's Red Mars and 2 sequels. We should be up there right now working on Mars
