So... judging by the responses here....

Nobody here likes dune except for heirs to the Frank Herbert fortune.

Nobody else likes Dune.

dunno. It's a pretty big file.

I finally got it to work. Had to go into connections and enable it. Thought it was since I had used it before. I think my conmputer is out to get me. So now I am enlightened. Thanks for the help.

Gin, et al:

There is now an Adobe 7.0 download. I just downloaded my computer a couple of days ago because there was something it wouldn't let me read with Adobe 6.0.

I've clicked on DIJ's link a couple of times and each time it has locked up my computer, maybe I'm not giving it enough time but it does seem really slow.

Edit:
Hmmm, I'll be. It worked fine today. :D ;)

Guilty as charged...you'll want to read it before you offer it to your daughter. At least I would...

ps: You lit me up Gin...thanks!

No, I liked the first couple of books just fine. Both the movies seem weak, except that it was nice to compare what I saw with what I imagined from the written word, and the rest of the FH books just got too wierd for me.

The new books seem awful, IMO. Could have been written by a thinking machine.

The movie was fair, but the story line is good . Ashame that the people who make movies have no imagination. Maybe that is why Hollywood is remaking older movie themes and butching the hell out of them.
Karl

I used to like them, but not anymore.

besides, I failed the Kareem Abdul Jabbar test!

I can't dunk, shoot free throws poorly, and don't move well without the ball. (or with it, for that matter!)

dear God, I hope not. Mcneely made all his sh!t up, I actually did my homework.

The Complete, Authorized Guide and Companion to Frank Herbert's Masterpiece of the Imagination, The Dune Encyclopedia (G.P. Putnam's, 1984), begins with a forward by Frank Herbert:

"Here is a rich background (and forground) for the Dune Chronicles, including scholarly bypaths and amusing sidelights. . . .

I give this encyclopedia my delighted approval, although I hold my own counsel on some of the issues still to be explored as the Chronicles unfold."

Frank Herbert, Port Townsend, Washington, November, 1983

Sure, McNeely created details not covered in the books written by Herbert -- with Herbert's express, written, public approval.

Herbert the Lesser (er' - Younger) has no such approval for his creativity, so who's to say which is "authentic" Dune lore and which is waste?

(If we only had a Mentat about the place. ;) )
