Anybody ordered up the newest GEC #25 single bladed Little Jack yet??

Been thinking about buying a few more of these...giving them away....maybe starting a gang.....

Well since you'll be giving them away..... :) I'm going to be ordering one as soon as I get paid on Friday though for sure.

I don't think I've seen anybody else ask yet but how is the pull on these things on a 1 to 10 scale?

> I wonder what it is, though, about this one?

The blunt curve of the blade tip, reminds me of a seatbelt cutter. I wish it swept back more.

-- Thanks for the compliment on the ebony clip barlow. :-p

For me, it's a Best in Class among the #25s, certainly the top Tidioute.

Total agreement, you have a real beauty there. That is the one that started me looking at 25's

Thanks for sharing all your pictures, very helpful, but bad for my wallet. :-)

Used the Peanut to open the box with the Pemberton

The Pemberton is built like a tank. Fit and finish are excellent. The only issue is a very sharp joint at the end of the spine, and the spine edges up to the clip. I tried stropping but they shaved the leather, so I resorted to a stone, and a bit of light dremmeling at the corner of the spine joint..

I forced the patina with hot vinegar on a Qtip..

I really like the slim handle profile of the single blade Pemberton, and the wide Pemberton blade seems much less fragile than my Peanut, and the Pemberton handle is slimmer, which is what I was hoping for.

As others often mention about GEC in general, my Pemberton has a pretty strong spring. I really appreciate the half stop for that reason. And Im enjoying the strong snap to open, which gives confidence, and the great snap to close, just sounds good.

Very happy with my first GEC. I blame this forum.
Thanks and Happy Easter!

Your first GEC? Nicely chosen! It sure don't look stupid. :)

The vinegar treatment turned out well!

Here's a crop from a picture that didn't come out the way I'd hoped, but does show off my ebony #25's own vinegar treatment to good effect. I like how even its bolster looks "softer" than the others.

Sarah, what's the secondary blade on that vinegared one? Is it one of those weird stubby clip abominations or something more graceful?

AHEM.

It's a pen blade, behind the main clip with opposing nail nick. Picksas (most from when the world was new):

I wouldn't call it graceful; that would be the secondary clip as seen above. ;) It's a strong, straightforward, useful blade all the same.

That Ebony 25's got nothing but class!
none of that main behind the secondary clip tomahto

I like the bolsters going matte from the vinegar too. My PembyBols failed to do that.

and, wow to that stag wharnie! Thats the blade I would buy on a 25! Could we see both blades please :-)

Love your pictures!

and, as a post without pictures, is lacking.. heres some more of mine:

Thanks!

The stag wharncliffe #25 has the same blade configuration as the Appaloosa Jack I just showed, a wharncliffe main with the swoopy little clip blade secondary that Blaine so fond of:

It's probably my favorite blade combination in the #25s for actual use (imagine), the straight wharncliffe with the bellied, easily-maneuverable little clip. The wharncliffe is pinchable (a plus!), yet maintains a relatively low profile in the handle when using the clip blade.

The stag is also purty:

With a nod to attempted proximity with the original thread subject, note that bareheaded GECs tend to flare at the bottom, rendering them wider at the base than bolstered variations of the same pattern. I don't have one of the new Weird[er] Little Stubby Things® with which to directly compare, but here's mr_badexample's from earlier in this thread:

And here, left to right, are my single-sheepsfoot #25 (with bolster), single-spear #25 (Northwoods version), #25 wharncliffe jack, and #25 stag wharncliffe barlow:

The point being for me, the #25 Jack, narrower than not only the stag barlow iteration with the same blades but also than a bareheaded-bone single blader (the Northwoods), is a real sleeper, a favorite no-nonsense knife.

I love the sheepsfoot in such a stout little single blade knife. I can always find use for that pattern.

+1. It's especially suited to a single-bladed knife such as the #25 in question, due to the blade profile when closed:

At first, I thought those #25s were too weird to live!!
Now, I think people who have never carried a WLST, don't realize what they are missing!
I have a hankering for a pinchable Sheepfoot EO version! Better start looking. . . .
I enjoy the knives in this thread very much!!

Compared to your Charlows...they are too weird! Lol!:D

Charlie the non EO version is also quite pinchable.

How is the pull on a scale of 1 to 10 with ten being a bear trap?? I still haven't ordered one up yet but I will soon. Things just keep coming up that keep sucking all my funds dry.

Nice! I like the subtle striping in the ebony.

I would think so!

Anyone who can access the spear's long pull on the first run of double-bladed barlows...
IMG_5906.jpg:original

... will easily have more than enough finger finesse to pull open the sheepsfoot on a #25 even without an EO cutout, no nail nick needed.

(There's of course little to no correlation between opening the barlow and the #25, respectively, but I liked both pictures. ;))

I'd rate it a 6 with the nail nick and a 5 with a pinch grip. I almost exclusively use a pinch because its easier and just seems more natural to me.

Sounds perfect! Im going to order one even if I have to dip into my savings until next pay day lol.
