Anybody prefer canvas to G10?

I've now used both canvas and G10 for hours chopping, cleaning up the yard from the recent culling of trees that were too close to the house. I have pretty much had to use gloves for the task, because it was all pine trees; I hate trying to clean the resin off my hands, plus, it helps the grip of the leather gloves. Anyway, just setting the conditions. In that scenario, I have seen no difference in the feel, vibration, or retention between canvas and G10. Now admittedly, the shape of the handle area have been a little different, but this is across a couple of examples of each material (and even a couple of knife brands). So, that being said, I'll pick G10 from now on for my scales, provided they are an option, and provided I can afford them (one of the O2W offerings the G10 scales were too much of a premium in my opinion, so I went with canvas).

Plus, G10 looks better. IMHO.

A well designed handle makes this question a wash in my experience. I have never had a knife fly out of my hands that wouldn't have if it used one material instead of the other.

I personally like the look and feel of micarta. I do have some G10 knives, folders and Busses, and the G10 feels grippier to me. Busse's texturing also isn't abrasive like you will find on some G10 folders.

If busse's G10 had this type of texture there would be less complaints. The G10 slabs on spyderco and benchmade knives has a warm micarta feel to it.

Canvas for me. It's on all my users. I did get a Trail Scalpel with G10 though. I just envisioned it looking amazing with black and tan.

I prefer G-10, but it depends how it's cut or shaped. I really like the canvas on my DTBM. As said before, if some busse G-10 grips had the texture on their grips like some other brands (usually much, much more small) I would pick G-10 and never look back. I understand you can't micro-groove a grip on something as big as most Busses, but G-10 can get really grippy in wet environments, like my folders. Maybe its just the monsoon weather coming through right now.

g10. with most busse handle designs, haven't noticed traction being an issue. I like the chem resistance and appearance.

Look at this .... I just got it and I'm in love. I think it's a hand smoothed linen micarta. Similar to tiger hide linen minus the green

ResC > Linen > canvas > g10 > black paper

I will add that hand shaped handles make a big difference as well

I like both quite a bit but my dislike for the multicolored/layered G10 has tuned me off on a lot of good deals.

Canvas is my favorite handle material that isn't titanium, but it doesn't have a huge advantage over G10. Basically it feels like a better quality material to my hand and I like its "warm" feeling

The more G-10 handled Busse's I get the less I like it as a handle material, to me it just feels like I may as well be holding chalk in my bare hands… it really hits my gag reflex anymore. Ironically, I did not get a single piece of micarta handle in any of my grab bags… their must have been naughty elves at the shop putting the bags together LOL.

Canvas for me. It's lighter and to me - grippier than G-10. I love the looks and the feel of canvas micarta.

To me it depends on the knife, the handle shape, the intended use, and the quality of the handle. So, I have a mixture of G10, Canvas, and Res-C. The material doesn't really matter to me in a small knife, the shape is more important.

But, in a big knife the handle can make a big difference. I find Res-C to be the most forgiving & grippy, but I wish the Res-C handles were larger (I have big hands). The canvas seems to be next most forgiving & grippy, followed by G10.

I buy G10 for better looks and canvas micarta more for hard use, because of its grip.

Again shape matters more than material in G10 and Canvas Micarta.
