Anybody strop their knives?

I change all of my blade edges to a cover grind ,after this, almost never need to put a knife on a stone to sharpen it unles I do some edge damage all I use is leather strops and green compound.

I make my convex edges pretty toothy so the stripping just cleans up a little of Thr toothy edge without making it mirror polished,I find my edges last a very long time with this system.

So I will send out leather envelope sizes to the first 10 people who could use one. Glue to a board and a smaller strop should work fine. Then let us know if a sharpened blade gets sharper.

you're awesome Mike. thanks much.

I bought a beavercraft paddle/leather with polishing compound it does an amazing job on my knives. My new Buck knives arrive sharp but stropping takes the sharpness to another level.

Hi Mike.
i do strop currently. my typical maintenance is steel rod, and if need to sharpen, i will then hit with ceramic rod and black and green dual sided strop that i have had for a long time. then i finish on an old belt (smooth side - i attach the buckle to a cabinet handle in the kitchen ;)).

but i have been wanting to make a more "solid" paddle strop for a bit with just bare leather.

so, i would like one please, if there is one available. thanks very much for the kind offer.

cheers.

EDIT: if this is not enough, then i will quickly hit it with a dmt duafold XF/XXF. This is good enough most of the time. if i really am not satisfied and really have to reset an edge, then i will break out the waterstones. i am not very good at any of it, but it gets them "sharp enough". :)

I use a strop on both knives and broad heads. And I also strop with both cardboard and paper if it is handy. A legal pad makes a nice field expedient strop in the office.

Wife and I were at a gun show some time back where a leather crafter was set up. I picked up this strop and loudly asked what this wife beater cost?
Naturally got a few laughs and a punch in the arm.

But yeah, I strop. After using a blade on the lansky or maybe stones, I check for a burr and usually find one. The strop cleans it up ok.

Prior to this wife beater My boot worked pretty good, or a belt looped around my foot.

If there's roomi on the list I'm interested also, thank you!

I've been stropping just about everything lately. Buck's 420 and a strop have been a fantastic combo for me. A couple minutes after the kids go to bed and it's ready to go for the next day...

Been stopping knives longer than I can remember, and I'm having a hard time remembering any more. lol Anyway, here's what I use. The strop bat was from JRE Industries years ago and the box of compound came from Bark River. There is also a tube of red Pro-Craft Buffing Compound - really puts a good final polish on the blades. The strop with the Flitz on it, I had before the JRE and it worked fairly well also. It's made out of a piece of leather from the top of an old boot. I found that if you rub a little Flitz into the leather and let it dry, it will really help you put a polished edge on your knife.
