Anybody strop their knives?

I feel the edge start to scratch the leather on drawing back. At that point I flatten out a touch and you can feel the draw smooth out.
This may have been discussed already,,but...
When you strop are you laying the blade down flat or holding it up at an angle.. ?

Cool.
I've wondered about this myself.
Thanks for the clarification.

Great question Pack Rat Pack Rat .

I've always just used the smooth side of the leather without any compound.
Is there any reason to use the rough side of the leather?

Yes, ^ the 2 sides can be used for different affects on the blade edge. If you had a big burr strop it on the rough side first to remove some of it first. So, you don't scratch the fine side. Also, you can apply different compound on the 2 sides. Something akin to a 2 grit stone. DM

That's sorta what I was hoping.
Thanks Dave.
Your knowledge is appreciated!!

When I bought my wife beater, I mean strop, The guy that made it loaded the rough side with Polishing whatever. He told me to just lay the blade flat as dragging it will compress the leather up to the blade edge. Or words to that effect..
I figure its personal preference and learning what works for you.
Good info everyone!
