Anybody use a wharnie

Bushman, I am intrigued at the idea of skinning big game with a razor. It would be great if you could do a video so we could check out the efficiency of such a small tool. I know I would love to see exactly how its done. Would that be possible?
Thanks

I love the wharnie design for just about everything. What I have done is bring the point up an 1/8" which gives you a small amount of belly/curve up to the point.

I like a good wharny!

I have to say this design is my new favorite for gutting a deer. With the point an 1/8" up from the cutting edge, it makes the prefect blade shape for gutting. I'll be using it to skin the spike I shot and will see how well it works for that job.

no video camera. :p

its simple, you just grasp the razor in your hands, pierce the hide and zip it (blade) along, seperating the hide as you cut. No need for sawing or cutting motions, its all one smooth cut. As for actual meat portioning, you need a bigger knife, but for hide removal a utility razor blade works just fine.

One of my favorites....until I lost it somewhere :(

Stomper's Tin knife Wharnie

Great looking knife Warren!

Just finished skinning, butchering and skinning the scalp to remove the antlers with the above pictured knife. That one is 440C. I purposely scraped bone, cut across bone to see how edge holding would be. Especially skinning out the antlers. I also filleted the backstraps. This to me is the best blade design I've ever used for game prep. It exceeded my expectations and still shaves hair after all that work. The blade length is 2 3/4", 2 1/2" cutting edge. This knife in a 4" version I feel would be the best all around woods knife to handle not only game prep but bushcraft also. The point is fine but strong because of the width. I popped chunks of wood out of a 2X4 drilling with the point.

Here is one I made a couple months back. I was going to keep it for myself but it got sold. It is made from 1/8" O1 and is 7" OAL Spaulted Maple scales and brass hardware. I used it to cut some leather and it worked awesome. It ct through the leather like butter and the pointy tip was easy to guide around the curves in the leather shape. I need to make me an ugly one so I can keep it around my shop.
