Anybody use the tw 90 Wuertz grinder

Goin to the CNC shop tommorrow to have a first round of surface grinding attachments made in what I believe to be the version I will release at the blade show. I think there will a couple options I will offer in magnetic table configurations, keeping the integral maker in minf. It will have a built in tapering feature for tangs that will double the angle on the second side using the same shim as the first side with no math. I'm just now finalizing the stops that will be additional (i think). But the base unit will include everything needed to surface grind flats and tapers.

After reading all that you guys have to say about this grinder, I think it is the one for me. I want to say how much I appreciate having the ability to tap such a diverse knowledge base from a bunch of great folks who are willing to share their viewpoints. This is a nice place to hang out.

Thanks again!!

Brian

Awesome!

I will certainly be purchasing one for my next grinder!

Really..you are not basing all the surfacing upon built in parallel faces. After setting up the grinder and attaching the surface griner you make a pass on the platen opposing the grinding belt and now you are dead parallel. I have measured with a micrometer from one end to the other and from one edge to the other on a pc of 1/4" 52100 2"x10". I could not discern any differences on a .001 micrometer. You can surface with a 20 grit Blaze or a 400 grit norzon. The hardness of the 90 durmoeter wheel makes a slight belt splice lap mark on the steel. One or two quick hand passes on a flat platten(granite surface plate) and they are removed. This thing really works. I am in Mexico without a camera to show off this thing..but it does perform nicely and now..after making 42 slipjoints on it..I love it. I have a converted Chinese surface grinder to belts and the Weurtz grinder does not play second fiddle to it at all.

One thing is for sure about this place, we are always willing to help you spend your money:)

Ordering mine friday! I desperately need Variable Speed and a Horizontal grinder. I am limited in space so I am opting for an all in one grinder?

Very interested now!!

Should have CNC quote for first run of 5 surface grinding attachments tomorrow. Then bout 2 weeks till completion and testing and evaluation.

Let us know when there available. I'm sure the 5 are already spoken for but you can put me down for one as soon as you get some ready to sale.

Sadly, I'm pretty sure I was being spoiled on one of these today, without even knowing it. Thanks Zoe, for ruining me and my finances.

A surface grinder attachment to use with the TW-90? This just might be the ultimate knife makers grinder. How much is the TW-90 grinder with the surface attachment going to be?

Grinder is not cheap but looks to be worth it. That is why I just sold my KMG to purchase this grinder. I can not wait to get it!!!:D

Well not as soon as I had planned with the surface grinder, but worked out better any way. Made a revision that had been kickin around in my head and it was definately a very positive change. Any way just took a rough forged bowie, with to prep, scale removal etc, straight to my surface grinding attachment. I faced both sides and brought the overall thickness down by over .060. I couldn't conclusively measure any difference in thickness from spine to choll. After heat treat (RC 60-62) surface ground the flats again to 220grit and again my Mitutoyo calipers were indecisive. After I dusted off my micrometer (reading skills mostly), I measured at the spine .2443" and .2447 at the choll. (note the blade is differentially hardened 52100 with a 1.125" ricasso, harde at the choll) I'm not claiming sub-.0005" precision yet, and like with most tools the user plays a large part, but it does do a very nice job. There is also a built in tang tapering feature.

Nice work Travis. This is as close or closer to "all in one" as anything available.

Still kicking around the indexable tubing notcher?? Bicycles and roll cages anyone?
