This is awesome. I'm ready to start grinding. I found some old brackets I made for racing seats this past weekend. The steel is 1/4" x 3" x 18". I have no idea what kind of steel they are. I know it's not stainless. They have some pretty big holes drilled in them where the seat bolts were. Hopefully i can still get a few practice blades out of them. Maybe I'll make a set of throwing knives or something.
I can't wait to get started with all this stuff. All of you guys are awesome for helping me out with this.
if you want to practice grinding, use some pieces of hard wood cut the thickness you want to make a knife from. you wont waste as many belts and the wood wont get hot like steel.

I've actually done that quite a bit. I have a ton of wooden knives around me shop. I stained one and gave it to my grandfather for his birthday. I'm ready to do some steel now. The wood was a great learning tool though. I would definitely recommend it to someone starting out.
