Anybody worried about Y2K?

Y2K

Here's a link; www.ict.org.il/ Click on Y2K and the apocolypse (long but interesting).

Seems like Y2K means a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

Will any of them act on New Years Day in order to take maximum advantage of all the media hype and public fears and anticipation?

Stay tuned.

BTW, I wonder if that hijacked airliner, now enroute to Afganistan, could reach the U.S. Then again, after reading the article, I guess it wouldn't have to go that far.

Happy Holidays

I'm a long time LEO, and if they're passing out any military equipment, they damn sure passed me by! Just me and my civilian long underwear. By the way, I too will be off on regular offdays when "Y2K" hits. The administrators of my department don't seem to be overly concerned about it. Let's just pray that no crazies get loose in the USA, as there's little that could be done about it before the fact. That's just our system.May all of us have truly blessed new years.

Aloha.
Well not much uproar here in Hawaii about Y2K. I think lots of people here already have their normal "hurricane survival" supplies. As for me just a few bottles of water, some extra rice and of course my SPAM supply. Must keep the Hawaii staples.

Its all B.S. First of all. Cars and things like that where there is a computer in the engine should not be affected. There is no reason to have a date based function in a cars computer. It simply runs the cooling, timing and electronic systems I.E. the gauges. It doesn't care if its a monday or if its 1900 or 2000.
Electricity may have a few minor problems but it isn't like it will be out forever and it will only be in selected spots. We know exactly what electricity is and will not have to spend years rediscovering anything.Same goes for computers some are compliant some aren't, the ones that aren't can and will be replaced when the time comes.Almost all of the large corporations we rely on (phone, water, electricity) were required to be updated and compliant months in advance and have done so. My dad works for ameritech and they literally unhooked and tossed in a dumpster anything that could not be updated. As of now their ready for it.If anything happens it will be through the stupidity of those few people who want to start trouble or those who panic when their lights flicker.I see no reason what so ever to worry.

Fix it right the first time, use Baling Wire !

Another interesting discussion, I love it!

I am not worried about Y2K. Since I live in a rural area, I will probably have a little extra gas on hand for the generator. We get our water from a well. Our stove and water heater are gas. I don't really expect any problems at my house, but I plan to take precautions like I would for an ice storm or hurricane.

I also have a tip: We have some of the battery operated Christmas candles. They are handy and safer than a flame when the power does go out. We tested them during Hurricane Floyd.

You might be able to pick up some at a deal in the next couple of days!!

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!?

I believe that there will be minor problems/inconveniences. I do also believe in being prepared too, so I have picked up some extra of our regular supplies that will get used in January reguardless of what happens.

So most of y'all are not worried?

Whew! What a relief!

I think that some people are going to be so depressed that the end of the world didn't come and they have to go back to their miserable lives they will go on a crazy killin' spree. A few computers will shut down. Some folks will have it rough. (No water, electricity, heat.) But by Feburary EVERYTHING should be back to normal.

Oh yeah and we will all be consumed by Hellfire.

Later,

I'am most concerned about mass riot's or Looting.People just using it as an excuse to do things.I think that it may overwhelm our emergency services and thats what worries me most. However;I will be able to take care of my families security in case the police can't.Later,RS

Yea, MINOR PROBLEMS, maybe a few suicide cults, some riots, the ususal. Nothing major, like D-day!

Consider 30 days of inconvenience as the worst case. For a couple of days your power's out, another day your mother's meds are late to the store, another day the cable doesn't work, all your Microsoft software craps out. Stuff like that. That's why I'm having a party with several of my most talented friends.

Take care,

Mike

I'm spending Y2K in the Key's. Worst case scenario is that I'll be sitting in the sun on a beach drinking WARM beer.

Hello All,
I will enjoy talking to Ivan and Tuff when we are all alive and well on new years day. I'm sure we will have some loonies who would love to make something happen.
Happy Holidays,

Bah...whatever happens happens as far as i'm concerned...more than likely i've been ready if anything does happen, for quite some time...it's just another day for me.

I don't think anyone knows what's going to happen, but I guess we'll all find out in about a week. Have a Good Christmas! & remember Jesus IS the reason for the season.

Apart from the usual New Year's mess (drunk drivers, fireworks setting barn on fire, people getting shot by other people shooting guns into the air for celeration purposes), the only other problem might be some radial elements using Y2K as an excuse to raise hell. But we should have some advanced warning since New Years will hit Europe before it hits the US. SO those BF members in the Central, Mountain and Pacific time zones, if you don't hear from us on the East coast after 11/10/9 PM your time, start heading for the hills

If all the computers go on the fritz, hey, maybe they'll make some new ones that are actually user friendly, don't take 20 minutes to boot up, don't require a heap of drivers for every little gizmo and an advanced degree in language to understand the error messages. Oh wait a minute, I guess the Apple Mac is already invented.

Well, them maybe everyone will start using them.
