I've stripped a few..maybe more than a few. Years ago. I remember some coating were more stubborn than others. I remember white (artic white, maybe) was a mthrfkr.

This bitch..hrs soaked in Jasco. No bueno.. Hrs in CitriStrip, nada. So, yea..what the shit?

The Jasco and CitriStrip are years old, maybe lost some punch? Get fresh product? Anyone strip, have trouble w/ coatings of late?

NFNO/ Middle knife

Etched logo (chemical)

Pic prior to attempt at strip, but brother...it looks the same. Not a dent.

Oh my... What a beauty of a NFNO in that Urban camo! I wonder if you'd be better off trading someone for a regular coated blade for stripping? Might be a win-win situation.

That Cerakote is tough stuff... I find it doesn't add much friction, so I'm not sure if the value of stripping Cerakote... But that's just me.

If you find a chemical that will strip cerakote, you probably shouldn't go near it.

Thanks for the heads up

Edit for humility

It IS actually Cerekote. Shit.. Honestly did not think it was..

%100. Wouldn't want any chemicals that strong (stopped researching, read enough) if there even is one, on property. Not going that far for a hobby project. Dont want to blast and then polish..nope.

Is that Cerakote? Because if it is, I think you're going to need sandpaper.
But maybe you can get some ideas here: Removing Cerakote | Sniper's Hide Forum

Is it indeed Cerekote now? Damn. That's changed at some point, or..wasn't always Cerekote, was it?

This is an "exclusive" coating for a retailer..maybe requested it over typical?

Thanks for the link

Agreed. In it for the aesthetics/ etched logo. Plus I love naked steel..I do understand the value it.

Trade? Maybe. I jumped on this one for the micarta scales..

Been out of the game too long..

Project abandoned. Sell, trade or just beat the snot out of it?

I'll figure it out

The Cerakoted releases are usually limited. There should be plenty of Micarta handled NFNOs floating around with regular coating on them that'll be far easier to strip.

This guy literally peeled off in a minute earlier today with some old school furniture gel paint stripper.. was bronze coated View attachment 1542619 View attachment 1542620 View attachment 1542621

Nice! Great etch and polish. I carry a Mega Game Warden, midnight blue..stripped in minutes w/ Jasco..

Thanks for the pics

Gotta be..Honestly, no idea this was actual gunkote/Cerekote. I would have passed on this one, for sure..

Thanks for the replys, sincerely. I need to find a regular coated one for the project..

The logo looks great. What did you use to etch that? PCB etchant?

Thanks. Yes, PCB. I hit it with a brass gun cleaning brush..I've used copper brushes as well..leaves some color in the etch. The color isn't permanent but looks cool.

Tried to strip a Tops Idaho Hunter SRE last summer. Clear Cerakote was chipping off and I was planning on using it for butchering deer and I didn't want that stuff in our food. Many soaks in Jasco later, most of the clear Cerakote was still there. Whatever the gray stuff underneath is remained unscathed. I gave up and sanded the blade and had the handle cerakoted. Clean looking knife now, without the huge laser etched text all over it.
(Sorry, off topic. I didn't realize this was a Busse forum.)

That got great results!

How long did you leave it on and what did you use to keep it in place? I’ve read about some using some type of material to form a “dam” around the logo to corral the PCB, but can’t recall what it was.

Thanks

First few I've done I would "dam" around logo w/ blue painter's tape. Then, just started to freestyle. I bundle up a big rag/t shirt, get the knife sitting where the fluid won't run out. Clean logo w/ degreaser/alchohol ..Q-tip, PCB...dab, dab till logo covered. Rinse/repeat..I think the fluid becomes less active after the initial "burn"..all that shit settles..so, an hr +/-..clean it up..3-4 times, more if want deeper.

I did a HHFSH, really deep...miss that blade very much..

I've never tried it w/ a battery..I've seen very good results.. faster, safer for sure.

Perfect timing.... I wasn't sure about kin knives and etching, or IF INFI blades will even etch like normal carbon blades?

anyone try Blue & Bleach?
