Anyone drinking??

Tomorrow I'm getting up early to hit a bottle of VanWinkle and Buffalo Trace. . .

Certainly my favorite line of Jerry's posts. :D

Expect higher prices at the package stores. There's about to be a bourbon shortage. :p

In my opinion that is way too much Vermouth... maybe by a factor of four or five.

I use the little silver spoon I was born with in my mouth (I figure it was there for a reason) to measure how much vermouth I use. I just measured it and it is 1/2 teaspoon. I use about the same amount of olive juice.

There may be something genetically different about me, but I just can't seem to grow fond of the martini, unless it's all girlied up with flavoring. (Appletini anyone?)

I tried one one the 4th. 3 oz. of Ketel One, 1/2 oz. of dry vermouth (Gallo). Chilled it in a shaker and plopped in a couple of olives (just plain old Spanish olives).

I had to choke it down.

Help me, lest I be relegated to a lifetime of cranberry, peach, and apple martinis.

Is it my choice of vodka? My vermouth? The olives?

I think the key is that I learn to enjoy shooting vodka.

Then, and only then, will I be ready for the martini.

I think the key to really "enjoying" martinis is practice. Drink 3 or 4 martinis a day until your hands start shaking whenever you don't have a drink in you. Then you will really enjoy your martinis.

I'm not a big fan of the martini taste either- though I do drink them from time to time. I usually just pound traditional martinis down in one big gulp- always gets a great reaction from the waitress! When I'm out with the wife, and nobody else is around to see me, I confess a weakness for the appletini myself. But usually, it's bourbon time, baby! I'll take Wild Turkey over just about anything else. I'm trying to cut back these days, though. I'm trying my level best not to turn into a full-blown drunk.

Huh...I don't like vodka - much of the time it feels abrasive on my throat. Gin works for me...I'd take a dirty martini over most dark liquors, but I do like the VanWinkle's potency.

I tried the 21/23yr (I don't remember what it was exactly), poured some in my cup and tried to taste it - that stuff's hardcore. I could feel the moisture on my tongue and throat dry up in a matter of seconds

I'm chugging a tall, cool glass of distilled water, right now. I might hit some of the harder, flavored beverages, later this afternoon.

chickenfried,

I've been to the Water Temple a few times with my friend's wee daughter.

I did not pay much attention to the ice or water in a cocktail until I moved into a new place and the tap water tasted really bad. I started making ice with the same bottled water I was drinking and my heartburn went away. I guess I should have put 2 and 2 together sooner. Later, I Just put an inline filter on my ice maker and had the same typical filter on my tap water outlet and everything tasted fine. All my drinks taste much better and cleaner with the filters. It might taste better with all bottled water, but that is an expense I do not want to incur now. I would imagine bagged ice is made from a cleaner source than our typical tap water. I promise I can tell a huge difference from tap water and the tap water that is filtered. I have called a few of the water companies in my area and they all have a " double osmosis system" they can install in your home, along with other benefits. Your call. Yes I can tell a difference with cleaner ice..--Just pour some of your local good bottled water as a mixer and compare with some ice made in a tray with some of the same tap water and your tell me.-----------But who knows--some places have good local tap water. Just a hint--Please let me know--my I am just too drunk to know.

All in fun

Vodka Gimlets (sp?) tonight!!

A wee splash of Roses Sweetened Lime Juice, and some Kettle One...

1 part to 6 parts... Yummeeeee!!

I never though this would happen.

Do you guys think the ice you use makes a difference?

I never did... BUT…the other day I bought a bottle of white wine to being to this girl’s house and I bought a bag of ice because it wasn’t cold. It was made with some fancy water and cost me something like 6 bucks.

So I have been using it in my Scotch (yes I use a little bit of ice) and dam it taste better that regular ice.

I swear:thumbup

Ive been a bartender part time for 15 years...I dont drink anymore, but,my favorite combo to start any bender was Bloody marys and beers. Pint glass.Potato vodka..say Chopin 3 oz or so, zing zang mix, peppercini, serachei, spicy bean and a lime..and an Ice cold Grolsch or a St .Paulie girl....3 rounds of that and it was time to get serious...small batch bourbons Bakers, Knob Creek and god forbid ,Bookers(avg 126 proof) wow.. the good ole days...still miss those bloodymarys...

It's a hard life you lead when you must eat prime rib two nights in a row.

The horror.

:p

Guyon,

No not two nights... if you recall last night Little Prick got roasted, but I don't know who ate him:eek:  . But he is gone today:thumbup:
