Anyone else addicted to the axis lock?

I like the Axis lock, but I've had springs on both my 710 and Griptilian break, making me send the knives back into Benchmade for replacements. It's so annoying to me that they won't just mail you a replacement. The lock was still able to function with one spring, but lock-up wasn't near as secure. I have a preference for the Caged Ball Lock from Spyderco.
Yeah, I went for the Manix 2 instead of Benchmade. I'm extremely happy with the Manix 2. It's so smooth!

I've been using AXIS-Lock folders from Benchmade for over ten years now and I have yet to have a malfunction due to dirt or any broken parts. I've taken apart an EDC Mini-Griptilian after several years of daily carry and no cleaning and after scouring the rust off the Omega springs (I used it in a saltwater environment), they still worked like new for several more years before I traded it (like a moron).

It seems like the only folks I've heard of (and only then through word of mouth, I've never seen one break) breaking Omega springs are flicking the blade back and forth with the AXIS-Lock bar held open. I don't do that.

I love the ambidextrous function, the self-tightening/adjusting ability and the ease of use to open and close with one hand. I also like how solid the design is. Heck, my handguns have insanely high amounts of springs and doodads and they never break. Why can't my knife use them?

I love how easy it is to open and close the blade on an axis knife. My 522 sticks a touch at the pivot (just got a new blade), but my 581 is set up so that I only have to pull back the axis bar and gravity will open or close the knife – no need for any wrist or arm motion whatsoever.

I will say, to give a different perspective on the omega spring issue, that I have had two go on me. In all fairness, I'm extremely hard on my knives, and this one (the 522) was being used in a sailboat often. The second spring kept working on it's own for months until I got around to fashioning a replacement from piano wire. The blade eventually snapped while I was hiking, and so both the old spring and my diy spring got replaced when the 522 got a new blade.

Yeah, I'm hooked on the Axis lock too. So much so that I hardly will look at a liner or frame lock.

Has anything defined Benchmade as much as the Axis lock? What's not to like as it's completely ambidextrous, easy to disengage with one thumb and just plain fun!

Benchmade was really built on balisongs, but no doubt the axis lock plays a bigger role in the company's products today.

i carried a Sog Vulcan tanto for a while. its one of the better knives I've carried. i think the axis lock had alot to do with it.

Im addicted, i play with the axis lock like i play with a butterfly knife, if that makes any sense. i flip it of and closed. i really dont know how to describe it lol.

My favorite lock too. I really like my Barrage 580SBK and my Mini Barrage 585BK. I trust the Axis lock more than my liner lock knives.

100%. I cant bring myself to buy any folder without an AXIS lock. I love the way I can almost instantly flip open and/or closed the knife. No need for a flipper or assist once you get good at it. Probably why I EDC Benchmades all the time.

I really want to try Spydercos compression lock, but I have a hard time believing that it would be as fun or smooth as the axis. I love it. I love how you can open and close the knife in different ways. I do really want to try the flipper/axis though. For me (if it works how I'd like it to) I can't imagine a knife that would be more fun to play with, and if I'm honest flipping/playing with is 90% of my knifes job. Don't judge me!

:D

I have EDC'd a full size Rittergrip for 6 years; prior to that it was a Mel Pardue. NO spring failures whatsoever, Axis
is the best lock I have ever owned.

The Axis lock works best on the larger blades like the 710. Pull back the lock and the blade flicks out with authority! Closes just as easy. My 710-D2 sees quite a bit of carry time.

Compression lock = brilliance
Axis lock = brilliance

The Axis lock is legendary but using this lock with a flipper is just not necessary. I can't think of a lock that needs it less..

I agree. My BM710 is faster to open then the flipper I have. The plus is that it is as just as fast to close.

It isn't as much fun especially for a lefty but it is as smooth. At least the ones I have owned.
