Anyone else feeling "satiated"?

You know.........when I'm stressed or unhappy.......or working a lot.
I tend to buy for something fun to look forward to.......
This has been a hell of a couple years.....
Boredom of lockdown was enough to get me buying.
Plus with prices going up and supply issues. I wonder if I don't buy now......will I be able to get a knife in the future and how much more it will cost?

Knives are so much cheaper than automobile or watch collections. I have 2 sons in law who are knife nuts, so I am not worried about the ultimate disposition of my collection.

Right now? Yes, a bit. The Benchmade Shootout filled one of the last niches I really had an itch for. I'm sure I'll get back to the knife lust again, but right now I'm concentrating more on updating my first aid kit some, making sure the car bags are in good shape and, if I'm feeling cautiously optimistic about my future health, picking up a Rinaldi boy's axe from FortyTwoBlades FortyTwoBlades for possible future outdoors tomfoolery.

Just my two cents. I find that it’s generally a bad idea to buy a knife (or anything really) to scratch a short-term itch. The pleasure fades hella fast and you might find out later that the knife isn’t for you. I like spending time mulling over potential purchases and how I might enjoy them. An afternoon might turn to days, and then to weeks. By the time I get it, it won’t be an impulse buy anymore and my expectations are mostly matched with the real thing. It makes the purchase feel more satisfying.

But that’s really just one way to play the game. For the most part, I’m quite happy with the current arsenal. Slowly easing off the “oh crap, I gotta have that” mentality.

Been on an absolute buying frenzy. Stepped away from it for almost 2 years and then a month or so ago…

Its like I had to buy every knife that was released in the last 2 years that interests me. It’s a sickness.

Extremely addictive hobby.

I think I am making progress sold 15 bought 7 this year, will probably sell a few more and not buy anything else, still have 95 folders and 15 fixed ( not counting the large number of Japanese Kitchen knives ), like to get down to maybe 75 folders and 10 fixed blades

Not exactly satisfied with my collection, but not in a hurry to add to it, either. It's an odd, between-space where I should be more focused on my own work, trying to make it into a business instead of something I putz about with for an hour or two, but finding the motivation is it's own seperate uphill battle.
This right here is me to a tee. I started making stone knives, spears, and bone based knuckle dusters but I get like maybe 5-8hrs/week to work on this stuff. I sold off all my knives except one my wife bought and 4 that I really liked the look of but I'm still trying to sell 2 of them. Just can't really justify super expensive knives as anything other than wants after scoring a WE D2 folder that was mint for $50. I just can't seem to beat it in terms of carry, looks, and performance so why drop $400+ on a CRK or a SBD Mini Tempest(grail knife for me)? At that point I'm paying $350 more than I paid for a functional and practical knife for something that is in my opinion all flash and no substance. Hell I've yet to see an actual user SBD Mini Tempest and most people are afraid to use them for anything other than letter opening.

That’s really a thing for me, the something fun to look forward to. I get a notion and go on an obsessed hunt. Then the glorious agony of watching my new precious travel in circles to get to me! Then of course by the time it arrives nothing could live up to expectations I have put on it so off it goes….Im still trying to figure out why I enjoy this so freaking much because its actually rather unpleasant.

I just moved. I packed up my collection and brought it to the other house. It’s all still in the boxes minus a Bailey fixed blade and my beloved Sheepdog. Maybe it will pass or could I possibly….. GULP!…. Be content?

Should I schedule therapy?

I was in that place about 10 years ago, I sold off 4 Randalls, a couple of gerbers, some vintage stuff and was content with the rest of the blades I had. Then someone stole my only Randall out of my truck, I normally did not keep it in the truck. I usually keep a USAF survival Ontario in the truck. Anyway that started the search for a replacement, which lead to several other purchases. For now though I am going to focus on making a couple of kit knives.

I'm retired now, and in the process of giving away my collection any time I see a good home. I have more knives than I will ever use and I know which ones I want to use in my golden years.
However, I still get the itch to buy more whenever I see a sexy knife. :)
But as you say, it is easier to ignore and thus end that itch.
It's an addiction indeed. Like any addiction, it gets easier.
Another recent retiree here. I have about 45 nice folders that I am starting to give away
to my close family and friends. Benchmade, Spyderco and CRK.
I was fortunate that during my career I was able to carry and heavily use many knives.
(which led to my addiction) I mentally struggle now that I’m retired and don’t have as
much ’stuff’ to cut. At this point in my life I’ve realized that my knives will outlive me.
Fortunately my 4 kids are knife nuts too, so they will appreciate anything I send them.
Heck, my 2 oldest girls are urban survival nuts...they don’t go anywhere without a
‘bug out bag’ and are always armed. Should be fun!

Hey man go easy on the underline, it's hard on the eyes.

What kits are you using? I've always wanted to make an actual knife but I can't forge worth a nickel and know absolute zip about tempering so that doesn't leave me much to work with.

The first Knife was a Jantz Kit, Knifemaking.com but was repacked as something else. The one I am working on now is and old German kit from 1982. Forging looks like fun on TV but I am not sure it's for me at this time. What I have found out on my first knife is that there is more to this than initially meets the eye. The devil is in the details. Read and take notes ahead of time. I am impatient and will skip steps without realizing until its too late.

You taught them well, grasshopper. 😁

Yup, I’m feeling it. It’s getting faaaar between new knife purchases. When I see something new and interessting I usually have something similar and nicer in my stable allready. There is one candidate though, the new Native in Magnacut. Other than that there is nothing I seriously concider buying. Guess I’m lucky but with 50+ knives it’s just natural I guess, there is only so many designs that are attractive. 🤷🏻
