Anyone else getting tired of black?

Dennis,
I couldn't agree more. G-10 comes in a wide array of really nice colors. I find myself drawn more and more to the blues and different shades of reds and even yellows. I find when I show friends or other folks my black model knives they "ho-hum" them. When I pull out the same models in different colors they always remark how gorgeous they are. Black of course is "stealthier". Another added benefit with the colors is when you drop the darn things fishing or out somewhere, they're EASY to spot.

Dennis,
I'm with you, I am sick of black knives. That is why I have picked up a green Sifu, green Carnivore Cub, red Carnivore and a blue
BM 940.

Bring on the colored handles. Wood and Stag are ok too.

YES!!!!

I am tired of black handled knives in general.
However, black G-10, is somehow a little less boring than say.........Zytel (yuck).

I recently swore to myself that I wouldn't buy another black tactical knife but then I was handed a SERE 2000 and that quickly changed my attitude. I swear, I'm off the black scales. Really!!

You know what I find even worse than black scales?
Black scales with black blades that's what!! (double yuck)

Evertime I see a black handled knife with a black blade I automatically think "cheap". Now I know that's a strange comment to make here on the forums but it's my true feelings on the subject. You don't have to agree with it.
Now do 'ya??

I do like colored handles......

Always remember - you are unique, just like everyone else.

Yeah, I just can't buy another black handled knife. It's weird: there are a lot of black handled knives out there that I really want to buy, but I just can't force myself to do it anymore.

Luckily, production companies are starting to offer some color options now, so you don't just have to buy customs.

I am glad to see production companies offering a variety of colors. I still like tactical knives, but the colored handles or natural material gives a touch of class.

Maybe I am and did not realize it. That could help explain my attraction to the BM 940.

I, for one, would surely appreciate a wider availability of wood or bone scales. I have a SOG Tomcat with cocobolo scales, for example, which is both rock - solid and beautiful. Wish I could find more of this kind of thing.

Yes. For the most part, black knives are rather boring.
There are some exceptions of course: blades worn on military and LEO uniforms, and the black micarta Calypso Jr.
But colors are a real plus in my book.

I like all my folders with black g-10 scales, but I know I would like some of them even more if they had colored handles. It's not like g-10 is exotic, or hard to find or something.

I have always wondered why almost every company uses mostly black. Is black g-10 cheaper? The folders I buy are mainly larger, tactical folders in the $100 and up range. I say if I'm paying good money like that for a product, I want options darnit!!

Now I am NOT saying I want to be able to buy a Sifu with a pastel handle with flowers on it... The application would dictate the color. For example - I really think some knives would look AWESOME with either camo or olive drab scales! I'd like to see some medium to small knives with brighter colored scales.

I also agree that wood is a definite upgrade. In a world of synthetic materials, wood really stands out.

For those of you that ARE A BIT TIRED OF BLACK (see Blade Magazine this month, August Issue, page 88) you may find we're after YOU! Check page 4 also for a color photo of our new Osprey by Darrel Ralph in COLOR!

Tactical Knives Magazine September Issue, page 32 for more on knives with color.

We also LIKE BLACK, but it's not our focus.

Knives are fun and that's what we're trying to bring out now.

Take care - BarnZ

Don't get me wrong. If I see a knife I like that only comes in black I will still get it

but I find myself being drawn more to other variations.

I think several knife companies see a trend away from black knives. These companies are capitalizing on the opportunity.

Guys,
While a touch of color is a good thing, the problem is getting enough customers to agree on what the "other color" is......

That is where custom knives come in to play.

Its not all about the "tactical look"....Henry Ford was on to something when he said..."..any color you want, as long as its black."

When you look at knives being "closed out" by producers, wholesalers, and retailers around the country, one of the most common knives are the models that were produced in different colors, while the standard black version continues on.....

Just something to think about from a "production company" point of view.
