Anyone else love stockmans?

A traditional stockman doesn’t do much for me. I usually use the main blade and that’s it. Now something like the GEC 29 Stockyard Whittler on the other hand I like very much because it has an awl instead of another blade.

Thats one I regret selling. A very useful pattern

Maybe ill try to find a replacement. I really like the red jigged bone
Mine is the amber jig bone. I would have preferred the acrylic, but beggars can’t be choosers lol. I would recommend going for another. I’ve thought about offloading my 38 for an acrylic if that’s possible.

Oh I love stockman pattern! I prefer square end. It’s about my second most commonly carried knife. I will post a family photo when I get get vertical again and get them out.

The small stockman like an Uncle Henry 897UH is a great pattern - I think it was one of Schrade’s most popular. You can edc one of those far more easily than most traditional patterns and the ones that GEC makes. I love mine.

An 82 Dixie Stockman in Elderberry marked my return to traditional knives after a 25+ year absence. I hemmed and hawed about purchasing it for a week or two before finally taking the plunge.

That was late 2019 and now traditionals outnumber moderns in my collection by 10 to 1 thanks not only to the utility; but also the childhood nostalgia provided the instant I popped that tube.

I like the large and jumbo stockmans best, although this week's stockman carry is a sowbelly.
I tried a "medium" stockman for a week once.
Not for me, so I gave it to my then co-driver. He likes small knives, for some reason...

I like the mediums. Maybe I should tag along while your handing them out? :)

The stockman variants are my favorite. I like the 3&7/8” Sowbelly in particular, and the medium case 18 & 32 as well. I like having multiple blades. A jack is a close second for me, and a single blade a distant third.

Do I love a stockman?

Yep, carry one every single day. I usually have a couple of knives on me at any given time, and a stockman is the default 1st choice of the pair. Everything else is optional.

My favorite pattern is the Case '75. Here's mine in CV and amber bone:

Second the 3 7/8 sowbelly

I have a few of them, although old enough, I don't have a single case stockman. I'm a fan of the buck 301, although I wish buck made one between the 303 and the 301.
