Anyone else love stockmans?

GEC 81 Abilene. I like it so much that i don't look for another one, though many others are of some interest.

Dan.

Big fan of the stockman! I actually just pulled out and oiled my GEC 29 in Bloodwood and 66 in Tortoiseshell - great handles, especially the bloodwood, and plenty of blades for any task.
I might have also picked up an Old Timer 108OT on a certain auction site this morning, before I even hopped out of bed :D:D

How about that PointyThings PointyThings - nice! I got its running buddy, the 18 with the same covers and new grind blades. OH

Nice! I still have a few of the new grind stags tucked away. Some had seriously nice scales, but I've got an 18 with butt-ugly second cut that's a weird grey/brown/blue color, like it went deep into the stag. Bought that one sight-unseen back in the 80s when phone orders were still a thing.

Gave the Buck a rest today and carried the Case 6318. I never liked how high the sheepsfoot blade sits on these, until I realized I could pinch it open.

Somewhere I read that the stockman pattern is designed that way intentionally so that the sheepsfoot blade can be pinched open, even when wearing gloves. Makes sense given that it was designed to be a "working man's knife."

There was a time when, to me, "pocket knife" meant a stockman pattern and nothing else -- although I don't think I even knew that it was called that. I've since expanded my appreciation of knives greatly. :p I do have several stockmans in my "collection," my latest acquisition being this 1988 6347 HP SSP Case, which I bought about a year ago. Currently I'm more likely to carry a medium to small single or two bladed pattern, though.

I like the *idea* of a stockman, but in actual practice find I almost never carry one.

I think I want one with a long spey blade, and a pen, along with the short, stout, sheepsfoot.

I would happily buy such a beast, but I still doubt I’d carry it in reality.
