Anyone else not quite "feeling it" anymore?

Buying has slowed for me, as I have many blades that I always wanted, and I am enjoying using them.

It is fun trying new designs and steels.

The rising cost of US maker knives is also a factor for my purchasing slowing down. I miss $40 Buck 110s and Spyderco GB1 for just north of a hundo.

Eh - it's just gear stuff. Take a break.

I rotate through things I'm into and go through the rise and fall. Hell - I have guitars, amps, cabs and music gear that have been sitting unplayed for the last 6 months that make what I've spent on knives seem like pocket change - and I was obsessed with that for the better part of 20 years.

I'll get back to it, when inspiration hits again, and then I'll probably buy less folders for awhile.

One thing I never get tired of, though, is design. Whether it's a guitar, or a knife, or a gaming GPU, or a fishing rod or reel, or any other thing I end up having fun with. If you're not having fun, take a break and come back when it's fun again.

Sometimes I feel the same way as the OP…but then I go buy 5 CRK’s in a week. 🤦‍♂️

My buying habits have changed (I rarely buy new ones these days) but my appreciation for well made, well designed knives has not. Now I just enjoy living vicariously through others. There are a lot of awesome knives out there, and it was a relief to finally realize that I did not have to own one of everything after all.

I have a love/hate relationship with knives

I’ve been obsessed with them since i was a kid

And I’m constantly on the search and seeing new cool knives on places like this to chase

But then I just throw them in the cupboard and keep carrying one small seb,sak or similar

I’ve got 3 winklers right now
One would do
And i have no coherent reason for the other 50 or 60 I’ve bought and sold…

It’s just obsessive behaviour man… brain malfunction

You can try and justify it all you like, but this is a completely ridiculous behaviour…

Think about people who do what we do with knives with other things:

I recently bought a torch
To carry when walking the dog in the dark, mainly to pick up dog poo without standing in it…
And in looking for ideas on which to buy i got to see the people who are the torch (or flashlight?) equivalent of us, and I thought man these people are completely insane having thousands of dollars of torches which all do pretty much the same thing and when in use they do exactly what i do with one…

This is why my friends are amused and confused by me carrying a $500 pocket knife of which i have 2 backups in the cupboard… it’s an insane thing to do

You are in a period of sanity
Enjoy it while it lasts

I get where the OP is coming from. I have not seen too much the last year or so that makes me reach for my wallet. I think I only bought 2 knives and I almost didn’t buy one of those.

I don’t feel ‘it’ as intensely or as frequently as I did at one time, but I still grab stuff that looks interesting … and the price is right. Two things contribute to that, I think: 1, I’ve acquired most of the knives I’ve really wanted (and then some); and 2, I think my tastes have refined as I’ve been acquiring stuff I really like, and a few things I don’t like quite as much. And by ‘refined’, I don’t necessarily mean higher quality, but rather I have a better and more narrow idea of the kind if knife I like and prefer. I’m just getting increasingly more particular about what I buy the bigger my collection gets.

All that being said, I just grabbed a Boker Plus Kirke earlier tonight, for no other reason that I thought it looked cool.

I can relate to your feelings
I have sold a large part of my collections but I still enjoy some knifes for their design and finish
I still have +/- 30 knives but I don’t have much excitation for something else

But nevertheless I still enjoy the hobby for the discussion, all the nice pictures and the fun of exchanging point of views and experiences
