Anyone else scared of carrying the nice knives they own?

I always wear carpenter pants to work so I usually carry 2 knives. One is always a low end Kershaw that gets to cut cardboard, shrink wrap and other misc. stuff. The other more costly knife is there just in case? Plus I've been known to sell whatever I'm carrying if I get a chance.

I used to think like that but once I started getting more nice knives I stopped worrying about them so much. If you spend that much on a knife then use it, a few scratches wont hurt it at all. Just carry your para 2, the dlc coating is very tough and doesnt scratch easily. If that doesnt work carry your para 2 and whatever less expensive knife you choose so you can use your para 2 but you can use the less expensive one to scratch up, all the while warming up to using your nicer knives without being scared of hurting it.

Everyone has a different concept of value .
I carry all of my knives without a second thought except for one .
A plain simple two bladed slip joint that my father left me . He carried it all his life from about the age of 20 , he died at 81 .
That knife I can't afford to lose , so it is the only " safe Queen " I'll ever own .

Good safe queen harronek. I'd keep that one safe too. Now you'll want to train your kids to appreciate Grand Dad's old knife.

There seems to be a rash of these types of threads lately. I could understand if the subject were about a $15,000 William Henry but frankly I don't get not carrying a production knife of any price. Such knives are made to be used. I have no use for a safe queen and therefore don't own any. Even my William Henry E10 gets pocket time (in fact, lots).

EDIT: OK, I admit that Harronek's knife is a perfectly legitimate "safe queen". ;)

I only safequeen knives that are sprints or discontinued. Ex: I would never carry a Mule Team. Anything else that can be bought again is used. Or you can buy two of each. $$$$$$

To a certain extent. If I had, say, an XM-18, I'd use it all the time. But I wouldn't use something like a ZT 888.

I noticed that when I started carrying or using more expensive watches, pens, knives, phones, etc., I paid more attention to where I left them or how I treated them. So carrying a more expensive knife might mean less chance of losing it because you're more aware of it. If I carry a knife that is out of production, I buy a back up or 2 so I don't have to tie it to my big toe at night.

What about carrying and using custom, one-off knives? I know I do, and so do a bunch of my knifenut friends. Life's too short.

I get scared at work. I do so many things and it is such a large workplace and I'd likely never find my precious sebenza again.

I've knives that are expensive(to me)that I don't carry that are anew price range as pm2 but my pm2 or delica get carried almost every day while the zt, Bradley, and al Mar stay in the drawer turns out they just don't do it for me like the spidies do

I've carried my large CRK Sebenza 21 carbon fiber in the shop (car garage) multiple times. Most of the knives i carry are 200$+. I'm a responsible person and if i feel like it may come unclipped i'll put it in a safe spot for the time being. You need to learn to check your pockets often. Just a quick feel. Don't be scared to carry it. If you're scared, make a lanyard and attach it to your belt, or carry it in a pouch.

I carry almost all of my nice knives.... but that doesn't mean it needs to be scratched/dinged up. I carry them in my pocket, with nothing else in it. On days where I know I won't be needing to use a knife I carry the ones for "fondling/admiring" only.

I think this thread is the reason I'm "scared" to buy even moderately expensive knives. I love the few budget blades I have, and being able to use them with reckless abandon.

Not scared one bit. If I don't use something it gets sold off or traded. Regardless of price or availability. I carry and use knives that have been discontinued so long, and are so scarce I have no hope of getting another one. I use mine and enjoy em without fear of wear or loss.

I haven't bought a knife I wont carry and use.
I'm not really scared of losing one, though I am aware when a knife clipped in my pocket is smooth wood instead of grippy G10 or FRN and thus not held as securely.
Also I often carry in a zipped vest pocket, nice and secure.

Yes, yes it is my first post.

I think at least 70% of the posters on this thread own knives they don't carry... the the other 30% are BS'ing. I'm sure almost everyone (who is a knife-enthusiast) has bought a knife, simply because they liked it or wanted it. Then, they realized that it just doesn't work well as a EDC for whatever reason.

Example: I have a Gayle Bradley that I love, but I don't carry it because 1) it's too heavy. 2) I can't operate it well with one hand. 3) It feels too big in my pocket. 4) It's too pimpin' for me to lose :D

Finally... one honest poster. Why didn't you join the "I only buy knives that I intend to carry and use, because I AM MAN" bandwagon? :D

Even my Bali #9 gets occasional (albeit illegal) carry.
