Anyone else scared of carrying the nice knives they own?

Always take the knife you like the most. Unless its a unique, one off engaved super hyper dollar museum piece. Then maybe not. I'm new to this game and only have 6 knifes and my nicest knife is a PM2 acid and stonewashed with polished spine and Bocote wood scales with a carbon spacer. Yes, I want people to comment on it too :) I always reach for it because I like it!

Image your somewhere and need your knife for something. Other people are there. You pull out your ten dollar Boker and get to work.

You come home and open up this forum and see a thread titled: "Saw some guy use a cheap chinese pos knife today why do people not get at least a semi decent knife?"

The horror.

Well, your om2 sounds nice. Your doin fine to only be on knife #6. Everyone doesn't justify spending big cash on a knife tho. Especially if they aren't knowledgeable about steels etc. Oh yeah, now that your collectin you should know knife's plural is knives. :)

Thanks. My knives ... bring me enjoyment. :) But what is an om2? :D

Even my Bali #9 gets occasional (albeit illegal) carry.

Well, Matthew, you cannot be too much of a paranoid nutjob...if you put your name and picture in your post.
I wish you good luck in your profession...and thank you for your service.
Don aka Sonnydaze...a much older vet.

On occasion, I have kept a nice knife for a while, before passing it on. I do carry a scratched-up Zaan every day, and the scratches are my own. I like that.

Now would you carry a knife and use it that is not in production that you spent $200 on that you may not be able to get again? Like a sprint or discontinued knife.

Well, I don't actually carry them...I do GIFT them...to close relatives... In particular, several of the out-of-production folders are the finest, IMO.
