Anyone else stoked for the new Kershaw/Emerson collaborations?!?!?

No worries, brother! It just takes minor adjustment on the technique. It's definitely a different feeling than a thumb stud. And I will admit that I've never been able to "flick" open an Emerson. Even my Mini-Commander that's years old and broken in. I believe sticktodrum posted a youtube vid of new stuff KAI sent him to review and guess what? He flicked the ZT Emerson's blade out with no effort! I think it's the design itself. ZT does a fantastic job with their manufacturing, and it's widely accepted that Emerson's start with gritty action but smooth out over time.

Speaking of your Zing, I've never owned one before but it's my understanding that the ramped thumb studs are a little smaller than the ones on the Blur. Any truth to this rumor??

Good point, man. The cool thing about that is you never feel bad about putting them through hell :D
Yep, they're a good bit smaller. I think the difficulty with opening has to do with their placement, close to the handle, versus the small size of the knife itself.

I'd like to see this pave the way for a future Limited Edition ZT/Emerson collaboration: maybe a modified version of the custom CQC-6 or custom Commander - waveless, flipper, KVT, framelock, M390 or some crazy composite blade ZT comes up with, and Ti bolsters with 3D carbon fiber.

I am very excited about this. My favorite knife is the Zero Tolerance 0200ST. This bad boy has been my EDC for three years! Great ergonomics, balance, and power.

There has yet to be a Chinese made Kershaw that I've liked enough to keep long term. The build quality and material quality just isn't there. But this CQC4k really has my eye. I love the thumbdisk and wave feature. It'll be nice to have that on a affordable knife. I'm hoping the G10 is similar to the kind found on the American made models. The G10 on my Kershaw Chill was pretty poor. Anyways, at least the build quality will be better than Emerson! Thumbs up for that!

Any ETA on these? Kershaw and ZT announce their products too far in advance. I'm too impatient for that.

I emailed them and they said "sometime this summer."

If they were made in USA I'd be all over them.
- The ZT versions are USA made.

- The Chinese made Kershaw knives that I own are not even close in build quality to the Emerson knives I own. They are good bang for the buck knives though.

I would rather have a blade made out of cardboard than 8Cr13MOV, but I'm definitely wanting a ZT/Emerson.

The thing with Emerson knives is they are a crapshoot. I have had a few and only one didn't have QC issues. One of them had something that looked like a lock but was 100% nonfunctional. Another had terrible grinds and the worst action on any knife to date, and the screws were stripping before it could be taken apart. 2 out of the 3 true Emersons I have owned being junk does not give me a reason to try them again. YMMV.

That said, Kershaw is consistent good for the price with their Chinese knives, with only some true lemons getting through (some have issues like off center blades but no real issues, I'm excluding those). In fact, the tightest tolerances I have seen on a sub $200 knife were on my Cryo.

I don't buy chinese knives. I'm kinda disappointed in the whole thing.

When more and more knives are being made overseas and the quality is matching or in some cases exceeding American made, you may want to revise that sentiment. Worry about who gets the money, not where the knife is made. Profits from Chinese knives goes to Kershaw, which in turn can be used to expand US manufacturing.

People like to think that's the case. Why put money in the chinese pocket? They screw us in so many ways. Well that's enough of that. Enjoy your chinese Emerson's or kershaw or what ever the hell they are.

im absolutely excited for the ZT variant coming out :)

and from what I've read..... these aren't collaborations as stated by Ernie on his website. This is a partnership between emerson and kai.

I'm happy and also furious. I'm already financially bad, and with the new Kershaw and ZT models on top of everything else I have seen, I might have to find a way to blow about a grand on knives before the end of this year.

Considering pretty the vast majority of countries, companies, and businesses IN THE WORLD screw us in some way or another, so if you only buy from people who don't screw you...you need to ditch your phone, internet service, PC, etc, and go live a self-sufficient life in the hills somewhere.

Yeah. Per bladehq, these are Emerson designs built by Kershaw. Not exactly the same as when they collaborate with a custom maker since these are Emerson designs that were never produced versus Kai's take on an existing Emerson model.

- Both Cryos that I own were nowhere near any $100 knife that I own. Both blades were poorly centered and scraped against the frame. One of the blades has chipped in multiple places from simple cutting tasks.

Great bang for the buck knife, so I didn't expect much more. I'm also not adverse to completely disassembling a knife to fix the issues.

Haha Grizzly Addams did have a beard!

Well I don't really carry my Iphone with pride. You gotta draw the line somewhere.
