Anyone ever gone without a knife for a day?

Yep... and it was horrible - no knife or 'pocket protector' (S&W 642) - for a couple of days last August... Jury Duty!

Not for a few years now (not since the last time I had occasion to travel by aeroplane.) As Carl mentioned, carrying a little keychain SAK will go far to ensure you're not completely without a handy dandy edged tool! Well, not as long as you remember your keys... :)

When I go to my sons school for parent teacher conferences at report card time I don't carry one. And I've forgot mine at home a couple of times and hated it.

I want to hear from the guys who don't take them on Army bases...my wife was stationed at Ft Bliss (SGM Academy if it makes a difference) and I always had 2 clipped on me at all times.

I'm a federal security guard and I've worked on two bases and visited at least two others I can recall. AFAIK 4" and under is fine but some bases may be different. Even in the limited access areas that's I've worked anyone with access was allowed to bring up to a 4" blade in.

Unless I was going flying.......which I have not done since 2000, knife in pocket. It's a rule that I do not break.

I have forgot it when in a hurry, then I go to grab for it and I feel like I am standing in front of class room butt naked! I hate that feeling!

Have you guys ever had to go without your knife on for any reason? What was it like?

Yes.

I didn't even notice. I knew, but didn't notice.

Not a big deal at all.

These day sit is very rare though, as I have my LaGriffe around my neck whenever I leave the house

My wife is an elementary administrator. When I visit her They have a strict 2 1/2" blade rule, and I have to leave whatever I am edcing in the car. I think the only one I ever am able to take in is my scallion. It really sucked when I had to move her out of her old classroom. I was freaking out man!

Not a whole day, but I had no pockets (and so no knife) last night when I went to a Halloween event. Felt awful... no knife, flashlight, lighter, pen/paper, etc... I don't know how sheeple do it!

No pockets? Neck knife + ankle gun, (or Smartcarry which can take gun, ID, cash, and some cell phones)

Several recent flights. I checked a knife, but couldn't carry during the layovers.

Gone without a knife...sad days. Especially when at the airport, feel naked without one.

Jury Duty. Fortunately it was only a few hours one day last week and one hour this week.

Last time I went a day without a knife was when I was 14 years old my Freshman year of HS, and relieved of my knives ( piece of junk SOG Aegis and an old rusty Douk-douk) at school by my super uptight principal that was nicknamed "the Warden". However before that confiscation he took my Spyderco Native that was clipped conspicuously in my right pocket, but I had that old rusty Douk-Douk stashed in the bottom of my cargo pocket on my shorts. I was a dumb juvenile, that had little respect, but a great deal for fear of authority. I wound up getting suspended for several days on an unrelated note and when my dad picked me up he retrieved my knives from my principal and he gave them back to me and told me (to my surprise) I better carry them more discretely or not at all. When I was allowed back into school I quite carrying knives to school for a very short spell. I wasn't a bad kid by any stretch, but rather liked knives, and enjoyed carrying/using them a great deal I wasn't belligerent or violent in any manner whatsoever. School is just so PC. Boys deserve to act like boys IMHO.

Yes I have, it was a sad day. I had to go to the DMV and the Social Security office that day. I was so naked.
