I sent out about $500 through paypal to a forum member (who will remain nameless for now) over three weeks ago and haven't heard from him since even though he is logging in daily. He will not answer my e-mails or visitor messages. I am considering trying to recover my money by filing a complaint with paypal. Has anyone done this?

I would like to add that even though I am relatively new to the forum, I have had several transactions in the past with members that were absolutely great, I just didn't check this guy out closely enough.

Yes, although itwas not knife related. My wife and I purchased 2 cell phones on Ebay, utilizing Pay Pal, and following all their required rules. The phones were supposed to be new in box, yet 1 arrived with pictures and phone numbers still on the SIM card, and the other would not charge. Filed a Paypal dispute, and received our money back within a week. Best of luck.

If he is a forum member logging in daily and you sent him $500 and he is ignoring you for three weeks then please post his forum name and full name and address so we know who you are dealing with. Just posting his name doesn't mean he is trying to pull a fast one on you but it doesn't look too good right now based on what you are saying.

After posting his name if you don't hear from him within a couple of days then I would immediately file a claim with Paypal and if nothing else Paypal will freeze the funds if they are in his account until the issue is resolved.

I had someone from ebay somehow get into my PayPal account and take out $400 but they had to transfer it from my Bank Account, still don't know how it happened but luckily it was a long holiday weekend, and I caught it on a Saturday while my bank was still opened.

I was told If they catch it in the first 24 hours usually they can get the money refunded, like I said, luckily it was a long holiday weekend and they couldn't complete all the transfers before the banks closed, by Thursday they had emailed me to let me know the money was back in my account and that I had to change my passwords, since they deactivated my account temporarily.

It all worked out and I have't had a problem since, (knock on wood).

Yes.

On paypal, in the history of recent transactions, there is a little blue clicky labeled Details.

Click on Details, and scroll down to some verbage talking about "problems with your transaction."

I agree 100% with posting his screen name and real name, but for $500, I'd not wait till the asshat responds here at Bladeforums. Lock up his acct with the dispute and claim immediately.
Click on the blue "Resolution Center" and file a dispute. If you have already tried to contact this bozo, you can immediately upgrade your concern to "File Claim." Paypal will more or less walk you thru this.

It will be helpful if you have some details handy, and if you choose to immediately file a claim, under the drop-down menu provided, use "Other" instead of "Tried to Resolve with Other Party Prior to Dispute."

My success rate with Paypal in the past has been 100% for such matters.

I bet he responds after you file a dispute with Paypal. They usually do. ;)

Yep, you can say that again, I bought an item for my grandchild on Ebay, Seller had in BOLD PRINT "NO RETURNS" he did neglect to mention a scratch on the item, said it was mint. I filed dispute without even notifying him because of his "NO RETURNS" policy. Within hours, my money was refunded by him and I closed dispute. 9 times out of 10, buyer prevails. Sad but true!

File immediately, you can always cancel.

Thanks for all the advice. I actually got an e-mail a from him a couple of hours after I started this thread. He apologized for not contacting me sooner and said he was out of town with a family emergency. He has promised to ship the knife to me by Thursday. If I don't have it by Friday, I will post his name here, on his e-bay account, and file a claim with Paypal. For now I will give him the benefit of the doubt. Thanks again.
