Anyone get into those fun & nostalgic sepia type photos...

Nice photo. You don't look as meticulously groomed as I thought.

Old School is kinda funny, isn't it?

The sepia I have been messing with is actually a setting on my camera... it seems to capture more of those warm tones than putting it through a photoshop wash. could be wrong... just what it looks like.

As soon as I figure out how to actually post stuff here, I will try to put some up.

I took a shot under low light conditions at a dinner party once with my Nikormat camera. Everything was adjusting to allow as much light and exposure for the film to obtain the photo. I did not use a flash as I wanted to see what would happen. The picture of my friends and family came out- but it was dark, and the colors and 'air' were as if I'd done an Oil Painting, not a photograph. The sepia brokenhallelujah and JJ are talking about- very much so. I always wondered why that was.

I figured it was just what happened to film and process without enough light- the incomplete chemical reaction left that wonderful through the butter lamp kind of look.

It was probably a combination of the film being balanced for daylight and a slow shutter speed. The color temperature of incandescent lighting is much warmer(yellow/red) than daylight and the slow shutter speed work make everything slightly soft because of subject/camera movement. Depending on the exposure it can look a lot like a sepia toned image.

It sure did. It looks like a oil painting from the Romantic era in Italy or France. If I could find it I'd take a picture of the picture and post it.

I've got a sepia setting on my Nikon digital camera, but have never used it.

The sepia photos we have displayed in our home, were all professionally done at one location or another. I use the word "professionally" very loosely, since some were done at places like the State and County Fairs, while at least one was actually done at a professional photo center.

I like this stuff very much, so the next time I want a sepia photo done, I may just try to experiment some with my camera's sepia setting. Guess it can't hurt to try ;)

The only thing is, if I do okay with it,....................... OH BOY!........... sepia galore will be all over the place............... LOL! ;)

Munk, what did you expect, for me to be dressed is a tuxedo and have a clean shaven face! :) LOL! ;)

(I saved this from when BF was down- better a late reply than never.)

JJ, that was fun. I lived in Miami for 17 years, just making sure I can still speak Spanish. Mi esposa es un bella mujer de Cuba.

No kids in our house, so I'm pretty casual with loaded guns. Can shoot in the backyard (not every caliber or all the time).

A lot of folks here speak or know Spanish to a good degree. And Latin. We're an educated bunch.

What I meant was, the finger off the trigger makes it 1990s instead of 1920's. But you have to set a good example when it comes to firearm safety. No two ways about that.

Mike,

That's cool, thanks for sharing

That was fun for me as well, Mike :)

I will now post the English translation, (man, I only wish I knew more than two languages).

In English:

My wife was born in Puerto Rico.
Myself, I was born in the State of New York, but my parents were born in Puerto Rico.

I don't know if I'm seen as a bad person, but what's happening with the illegal immigrants and their protests, I don't like one bit.

First off, you have these American firms breaking the law in order to get cheaper labor.

You have the Democrats worried about losing the hispanic vote.

You have the Republicans worried about the same thing, and them not wanting to hurt companies that are now relying on a "illegal" immigrant workforce.

You have people resisting tough ideas like walls or fencing between borders.

You have people resisting the use of any national guard help on the borders.

You have Americans all worried that their fruit costs will rise if illegal immigration is greatly slowed down.

The Government is weak on punishing companies that hire "illegals".

Folks are now even told that the word "illegal" is inappropriate, even though it's against the law to enter our country without permission.

I understand that most that come are only seeking a better life, but that is no excuse to let this continue as it is. In my opinion, we need to ask for change.

And now, on top of everything else, many of these "illegals" are demanding citizenship, as if it's their right!

I'm American, and what I believe is that it is time that our government do somthing about this illegal immigrant situation, including those that enter on temporary visas and then illegally stay.

There are those that say that laws were made to be broken. I say, for the most part, laws are made to be followed.

Yeah. It is a sad situation...

While America WAS founded by immigrants, they were people who came here with the intent of staying; starting a new life; becoming Americans. And they did... ultimately contributing much to society and the best gift: their children.

People who work here illegally and go home with the money may be providing cheap labor, which employers like, but it really isn't the same in terms.

Illegal/Migrant is not immigrant.

Again, it's sad: one more debate in which nothing is cut & dried. And these protests: not good for anyone. What are they saying? "We're proud we're NOT Americans? or We take advantage of America without wanting to be a part of it?"

My Cuban family came here in the 1960's for a short stay, believing no American president would tolerate a Communist enemy foothold so close to our shores. 40+ years later they are still waiting to go home- and would if they could. The old people miss Cuba a lot. Sadly, many are buried here, dying in exile while cabron Fidel grinds Cuba into the ground while lining his pockets with the country's wealth. Some communist. POS mentidoso, assasino.

<ahem> But the next generation, their children, young Cuban-Americans continue to fulfil the dream of emigration to America, though not by design: they remain here and contribute to America. My wife has a master's, her sister a master's: both are teachers. Their brother, an engineer. If Fidel would hurry up and DIE, we might be able to go back and look around. I Imagine they/we might well retire there. The next, third generation calls America home.

And <he said, getting back on subject> if you took a sepia photo of my family, it would look like in pre-Castro days.

Carino,
Mike

Re: "Old Timey" Sepia photos
A digital camera, the right software, a good printer, and you can have a lot of fun making your own :D

Throw a costume party, have a nice backdrop set up, and all your guests can take home an "old timey" photo suitable for framing. Groovy
