Anyone Get New Bucks Today?

Though that is very similar, the knife I received is a Folder....Thanks for responding!

Sorry...I should have asked if the Battling Buck on the blade looked like the one I posted. BassPro sells both a fixed blade 694 Alpha and a folder 279 Alpha. Go to th Basspro web site and take a look.

I got a Buck Short nighthawk yesterday. It's my first buck, until now my dads jsut let me use his. He's used them since he was in basic training in 1978, he said his battalion he was in was so impressed by the end everyone had a folding buck knife. I cant get on photbucket right now so ill post pics of my nighthawk later :-)

Hi Insanejoe,
Welcome to the Buck forum  . Please do post a pic for all to see. I don't have any of the nighthawk knives...."yet"....but, I will some day. Maybe your pic will be the motivation I need to get one :D .

Actually I see that prices online for the Buck Strider (SBMF folder) range from $39.99 (SMKW) to nearly $100 (Knife Center). Are they the same knife? Descriptions and pictures at both sites look the same to me.

the second one is mildly blurry. :o

Nice pics. I'd like your opinion of the Buck Strider compared to your Benchmade 705 and your Kershaw Spec-Bump. Of course the Buck is less than half the price of the other two.

Did someone say mini-review? :) Ill just touch on acouple things......

Handle - I really like the smoothed G-10 handles on the Kershaw, both knives fit the hand really well but the "taccom" handles feel too plasticy.

Blade - I love the extra-large drop-point blade, easier to sharpen than the Kershaw plus it is nice and thick for hard use. But as far as blade steel goes, ill take the CPM154.

Locking Mech - I like the locking liner (even though it does tear up your thumb a bit) over the thumb stud lock found on the Kershaw, its nice and all but I trust the old liner locks better. Assisted opening is very nice and comes in handy, plus there is an added cool factor.

Clip - The pocket clips are equal, the Kershaw's is too big but is easy to slide in your pocket, the Buck's is just right but so tight I tried bending it back but it is still very tight to the knife, it eats up pockets nice and fast.

General - For the price you can't loose with a 889, this thing just screams to be used and used hard. I can see alot of time and effort went in to making this knife like its Strider counterpart and they pulled it off very well. Can't really compare the 705 due to it's smaller size, but it would have to rank in the top 5 knives I own and once owned. Oh, and sorry if I thread-jacked alittle bit :D

Also if you look at both sides of the blade, it will be stamped if it is a different steel. (ATS-34, 154Cm, BG-42, S30V etc...)

Do you have a pic of that "154CM" stamped blade??? What model Buck did you see it on???
