Anyone have any ideas...re: knives sent from Canada to USA but still haven't arrived

...Further to knifeman7's comments, sometimes it may not necessarily be the fault of each respective country's postal service, rather it could also be delays in each respective country's customs agencies.

Further to knifeman7's comment re: "the seller should be able to determine what date it crossed the boder" ... I am not sure how unless a traceable/tracked service is used (e.g. Canada Post XpressPost). Unless I am missing something, if you send your package via regular "air mail" how would the seller know when it crosses the border? The only info anyone would be able to validate would be the receiver by checking the date stamp IF REGULAR AIR MAIL was used.

I am not about to get into a pissing match over which country's postal service is better or worse... I think in this (hopefully) isolated example, someone screwed up but at the end of day, the package eventually arrived. If we gauge the abilities of each respective country's postal service by its ability to successfully deliver a package, they both did their jobs. Don't get me started on the topic of expediency however...

I trust that my experience aids others who may be waiting for a package(s), or may be considering sending a package(s) to fellow forumites across each repsective border(s)...

Take care all.... JC

Thanks JC. I was starting to feel my latent nationalist tendencies starting to crawl to the surface. I too have had some excessively long waits for cross-border packages, although none as long as yours. Let's face it: There are two national postal services and two customs agencies between the sender and receiver. Who knows how many hands pass on the packages, how many times they are sorted and put in different trucks and airplanes, how many other packages there are jumbling along with our packages, and how many other packages are in line and being stored with our boxes when awaiting customs inspection. Then there is the fact that we are moving into the busiest season for our posties. Sometimes I think it a miracle that our letters and boxes arrive at all given the measly postage we affix.

Now that said, seven and a half weeks (I think) is attrocious. However, I believe it to be an exception, not the rule. On the third hand, I read a couple weeks ago that the Canadaian Customs Inspectors are pissed at the government for not giving them wage parity with the imigration officers. That MAY be part of the story.

Moral of the story? Maybe it is worth the extra $10 to send the package in a traceable form?

In the end the package arrived! Yeah! Happy ending.

Cheers,
BillyJoeBob

I went to check at my local Post Office about an hour ago to see if MAYBE the package that I have coming to me from Edmonton, Alberta (about 550-600 miles away from me) has arrived yet (it was sent to me c/o "General Delivery" last Saturday), and the Clerk just started laughing when I told him that I'm expecting a package from Canada. He told me that he hoped that it isn't a Christmas present, as it might not make it here in-time. He said that chances are that the package will travel CLEAR-ACROSS Canada and back, before it reaches me. (I'm NOT kidding...).

Damn...Now I'm REALLY worried...:(.

I'm not going to go blaming each other's postal systems... I really do believe this was an isolated case. I've had other packages arrive from Canada in much quicker times before also by reg. air mail (two to three weeks), and I understand that crap sometimes happens. From the looks of the package when I got it, it seemed like it fell out of the plane or something. :D In any case, I'm just happy the package eventually got here and I consider our situation resolved.

I sent a knife I sold awhile back to Cananda, it got held in export office in New York! The New York office wanted an extra $75.00 bucks from the guy I sold to in Cananda to release the item!

I don't ship anything to Cananda anymore, hell everything up there is considered a DEADLY WEAPON anyway. The gun laws suck, BB guns are illegal, knives could be held and put in some inspectors pocket for saftey reasons "wink wink"

I sent a knife from Vegas to California ( Fresno if I remember correctly ). My wife actually shipped it for me , she sent it priority , insured and signature confirmation.
It took 28 days to get there ! I never got a delivery confirmation back on this package from the USPS , those bastids delivered it to the wrong place . Luckily this other person knew the person it was supposed to go to and finished the delivery.

Now if this was a private business who constantly delivered this kind of service , they would long be out of business.
Where else do you pay extra for "special services " and get squat in return and then have to wait half a lifetime to make a claim ??

Postal services piss me off...though I do love the BIG BROWN TRUCK when it stops in front of the house ! :D :D
