Anyone have the "perfect" wilderness/survival knife?

The Bottom Siegle is as close as I've found to the perfect knife that can both chop,slice,etc--and be very comfortable with extended use.

Everyone that holds it wants to buy it...

WOW!!!! Now that is a sweet looking knife!!! If only....

I used to be a hardcore knife guy, but to be honest I am more of a multitool/SAK guy. I would have to say my Gerber LMF II. It isn't a good chopper but it splits very well, has an excellent sheath, has a built in sharpener, and the hammer is very useful.

My latest one from Mark Wohlwend may well be it for me as a ' one knife do it all ' type blade. The more I use it the more I like it, there is nothing I'd change and that for me is unusual !

For me asking a question about the perfect knife is like asking what is the perfect screwdriver. Different ones are meant to do different things, they don't all fit into the same category, just like flat & phillips don't.

For me there are at least 3 categories of knives (not including axes and multitool/SAKs): small (bushcraft & food prep), medium (general purpose), large (general purpose that can chop & backup weapon). Rarely would I only have one kind of knife in the wilderness.

I have found the perfect small knife for me: the Bark River Gunny. I don't think there is anything it can't do that I'd want it for. Its comfortable to use, durable but easy to carry, and pleasing to the eye (which matters to me).

In the other two categories, the SwampRat RatManDu and the Busse SFNO (sabre grind), are the default leaders, but they don't quite arrive at perfection like the Gunny.

I made this out of a scrap piece of steel that I tried my first filework on and decided that I couldn't waste the steel. It was based only on the scrap piece, as a backup for my wedding. As it turned out I rebroke my leg and couldn't finish the sword, so I wore this instead. I cannot appreciate my other neck knives after making this one (still not getting rid of them though).

I don't have the perfect slipjoint, axe, belt FB, or folder- but I'm pretty sure I have the perfect necker for me- good size, full handle (of great looking ironwood), CPM154 with full belly, wood kydex sheath- it fits the bill perfectly.

...the "perfect" wilderness/survival knife?

I have plenty of really good woods knives that excel in a variety of tasks.

But when "survival" is part of the equation,

...my BlackJack HALO is the blade I trust.

Big Mike that is an awesome looking blade. I assume that it is convex, correct? How wide is the tang on it? Also, is that what they call the border patrol handle?

take the bottom knife (boss jack), remove the scales and put it on a horizontal grinder to reduce it's stock thickness down to 3/32" and it would be a perfect one-knife-does-all package. as it is (after I sharpen it) it's about the best catch all design I have seen so far.

The idea of a "perfect" one knife solution to a general use scenario like wilderness survival isn't for it to be fantastic at any given task, it's to make sure it doesn't suck so bad at any of them that you don't want to use it. If you think to yourself "yeah, it does alright at this." for everything you need to do without exception, that's getting into the category of "perfect" one knife does all.

Either of these two are perfect for me. I haven't bought anymore knives after acquiring these.

That's all we get, "Yes thanks for asking"? WTF is up with that? No pictures?

Personally I have a couple that would fill my needs very well. Am I done? H#ll no :)

Ha!.... I was pressed for time.... so I did a post and run....

Today my perfect survival knife looks like this....

It is big enough, small enough, heavy enough, light enough, hard enough, tough enough, pretty enough and ugly enough.... What more could I ask for?

Decisions decisions! Well...at the moment I'd have to go with this one.

I'm so freakin' confused!

Yes, full convex.

It is a mortised tang; i.e. the top of the tang is exposed,

...the bottom is hidden inside the handle.

And yes, Border Patrol handle.
