I ordered two knives from TOPS, more than two months ago. I received one of them about six weeks ago, and no signs of the second. I've called them four times, and they don't even answer their phone any more. They just tell you to leave a message, and they will call back. I've left messages for the last three weeks. I finally sent them an email, and am waiting for an answer. I don't recommend ordering from them. I'm beginning to think that they might be going out of business. Does anyone have any info?:grumpy:

Finally got a reply from TOPS. They said it will be probably 5 more weeks before I get my knife. That will be about 4 months to get a knife, if it comes through by then. Really poor service.

I ordered a knife from them over six weeks ago that was supposed to be "available right now", then I got an email from them saying that it was on back order and would ship in about four to six weeks. I emailed them last night and got a reply this morning saying it would ship ASAP. Really my only beef with them is advertising a knife as "available right now" and then finding out two days later that it's actually on back order. I was misled into thinking it would probably ship within a couple of days.

I really feel for you man. That is indeed really poor service.

Manufacturers are generally not the best places to order from. That what dealers are for. Unfortunately, with a lineup as extensive as TOPS, it can be impossible to find the knife you want at a dealer.

That was the case with me, Esav. I couldn't find exactly what I was looking for anywhere else so I had to order directly from them. It's usually cheaper ordering from dealers, too.

I'm cooling my heals waiting for a dealer to get in a TOPS knife that's on backorder. They told me "it could be next week, it could be 6 months with TOPS".

Absolutely. There are some online auction stores that have a wide array of Tops knives. Can't fault the manufacturer for this completely though. They are trying to crank out knives to their dealers, they are the ones that buy the products on volume. A single knife in the grand scheme of things might easily get overlooked when it comes to an order of several hundreds going to all sorts of places.

Manufaturers adhere to production schedules. If they did not do this it would be complete chaos. The time that is scheduled for each model at the production facility is one of those things that is adhered to religiously. A manufacturer will also sell a knife at full MSRP, this is usually 30-50% higher than a standard knife store. This is done to prevent hurting the dealers. I'm not excusing their behavior, but in general this is what most manufacturers do.
