Just looking for some really scary horror movies that will scare the caca out of me, like movies that will not let me sleep later that night. Anyone with suggestions feel free to chip in.

OK, I will admit that the latest remake of Texas Chainsaw Massacre (with Jessica Biel) got to me a little. First movie in 25+ years, but I actually caught myself checking the backseat of my car before I got in when I left the theater.

Audition. Japanese horror film with subtitles. The ending was truly horrible.

Most of the genre is pretty bad, but I liked 28 Days After (showing up on TV next week) Think of Days of the Triffids with zombies..

I saw a video of an IRS audit once, still gives me nightmares...

Looking forward to seeing if the remake of the Hills Have Eyes gives any twinges. Doubt it, life was always scarier than anything fictional I've seen...

If you like Werewolf flicks then check out Dog Soldiers, keeps the tension going the whole time. I recently saw a decent horror film called Dead End that wasn't too bad and I liked High Tension quite a bit , the problem with most horror films these days is they are trying too hard to cater to the youth crowd, everything is pg13. A pet peeve is with Vampire movies where the Vampire who is countless years old is defeated by some punk who is 20 because all of a sudden the Vampire forgets there is such a thing as daylight or holy water or that blackened windows can be broken or rather than just kill the snot outright he decides to play games and keep giving him chances to kill him. Geeze.

I think that the scariest movie I ever saw was not a "horror" movie at all.
It was "Cujo." The thing about this one is that the scenario is totally feasable, not a far-fetched fantasy. Of course, the presence of any reasonably powerful handgun in the car would have settled the matter, but then there would have been no movie.

Jeepers Creepers really scared the s out of me the first time I saw it. Jeepers Creepers 2 is worth seeing for more of the monster.

Excorcist is probably the only movie that scares me every time I see it. First time I saw it I couldn't sleep for a week, literally, then I couldn't sleep with the lights off for a month.

Dawn of the Dead really revved my imagination into overdrive. Not scary, some nightmares.

Persev mentioned Dog Soldiers. I don't think it was scary per se, but the way it was shot, especially the shot near the end where the dog is sitting there and the wolves are crouching down, sniffing him, that's just eerie to me. I love the concept of werewolves, a creepy werewolf flick to check out is Brotherhood of the Wolf. American Werewolf is supposed to be a dark comedy, but it really is sad, IMO.

John Carpenters the Thing, I saw that in my late teens, and had a Siberian Husky that looked just like the alien dog in the beginning. Whenever he yawned, wow. I think I shooed the poor old guy out of the family room while I was watching that scene in the kennel. Also, the big blob carrying away one of the workers, and the guys head walking across the floor, were seat squirming, not scary though.

My favorite horror films are:
*Night of the Living Dead (1968)
*Night of the Living Dead (1990)
*Dawn of the Dead (1978)
*Texas Chainsaw Massacre (1974)
*Cemetery Man, (aka Dellamorte, Dellamore) (1995)

Of those, I think Texas Chainsaw Massacre gives me the most "willies."

By the way, does anyone have any info about Cemetery Man being released on region 1 DVD by Anchor Bay on June 13, 2006? I've been burned on rumors like this before.

Even though is IMDB is maintained by fans, not company execs, the fans are usually pretty good about their information. If you visit IMDB, the Internet Movie Data Base, there is a listing in the upper right hand corner, listing what regions and what formats, VHS or DVD, a movie is available in. Also, just keep visiting Amazon for dvd information, when the public knows about a dvd coming out, Amazon usually is first in line with the preorder options.

I saw the hills have eyes this past weekend with my brother. Great movie:thumbup: . I never saw the original but this movie was great. A couple parts were corny but all around good watch and worth the money.

It starts off with just a look back at nuclear testing in a desert and how the fallout? caused mutations in the miners that refused to leave. A family was going on vacation and one thing leads to another and they are stuck in the desert. Then thats when TSHTF.

Great movie:thumbup:

Evil Dead I and II
Hellraiser I and II
The Howling (most evil looking werewolves ever)
The Reanimator

Scary Movie 3. But I have to admit that I laughed more than got scared. Any movie with Leslie Neilson is a winner.

Best part is where Martin Sheen fights Michael Jackson in his daughter's bedroom. :D

So it's not really a horror movie, but entertaining nontheless.

Depends. (he-he) Seriously, it depends on what scares you. Blood and guts doesn't do a lot for me. I like suspense and a well-crafted movie... ("The Others" with Nicole Kidman was my favorite movie one year.)

"The Ring" absolutely scared the living poo out of me. That was the closest I've EVER come to walking out of a theatre with poo running down my leg.

What ticks me off are people who play tough about not being scared by movies - especially the ones who weren't scared by The Blair Witch Project - ya see, with horror, YOU have to play along. If you have no imagination it's not going to scare you.

Horror, GOOD horror goes after those with imagination, and those it does a job on.

"Audition" was insane. I've been seeing a lot of Asian horror lately. They're doing good work. There are very few bad ones.

"The Eye 2" (Chinese) was really good. (Don't need to see The Eye 1.)

"Open Water" (not to be confused with Dark Water) while not EXACTLY a horror was still DEEPLY disturbing. Watch it with the lights out, then go get therapy.

I also like movies that give me the urge to go buy more guns. For example:

That recent remake of "Dawn of the Dead" with the fast zombies was pretty crazy. I loved that - great soundtrack too.
A movie that just left the theatre was "Hostle" (not to be confused with Hostile).
I just saw the new "The Hills Have Eyes", which just opened Friday. That's one messed up movie. (In the good way.)

Oooh! I just remembered a GOOD one...
"May" (2002) That's one twisted movie.
If you liked "Audition", you'd like "May".

Gimme a while. I'll think of more.

Did you see the DVD? Odd thing about that movie... there's an alternate ending (actually, more like the whole 2nd half of the movie) on the disc that's all pencil-drawn that's WAY better than the actual movie. They go through it in the special features section and read the script as they flash the pencil-renderings of the scenes on the screen - it's really good.
.

On a different note...

Rent a movie called "Mr. Vampire" (1985). You'll probably need Netflix or a really thorough movie rental place. Sort of a asian horror/comedy. Funny as heck. Strangest (in a good way) movie you've ever seen. I guarantee it.

If you like that kind of stuff: "Bio Zombie" (1998) It's subtitled AND dubbed over in english by someone who doesn't speak very good english, the words don't match the subtitles, and together it makes for one pretty freakin' funny horror flick.

.

Some of the more recent ones I've seen.....

Skeleton Key- I liked this one quite a bit. Good plot, fairly good suspense. You won't guess the ending, it really made the movie.

House of 1000 corpses. Written by Rob Zombie and probably the most disturbing thing I've seen in awhile. It wasn't particularly scary as in sitting on the edge of your seat scary....but it was disturbing. Some very sick twisted stuff going on in that one.

The grudge- This one was decent. Had a few parts that had people jumping, good suspense here and there. Not the best movie, but if you get a chance its probably worth watching.

Exorcism of Emily Rose- This one was shot well, and the girl in it played it really well. Had several parts that could startle you, pretty good suspense. I liked it better than the other exorcist movies I've seen.
