If so, Who,what when and where and how do you carry? I carry the Coldsteel TrailGuide clipped in my front pocket and my other weapon of choice the little Russian Makarov.

I carry my 806D2 plain edge all the time specifically for that purpose. I would also use it for some harder cutting chores that my 921 wouldn't be suitable for though. I have it razor sharp now, so it cuts a lot better than when I got it. I carry it usually in my right rear pocket, unless I'm at work. Then it goes in my right front pocket. Our EMS uniform pants have that stupid flap over the rear pocket that really slows down the draw.

The 806D2 is made by Benchmade. The blade falls just short of 4 inches IIRC. I've held one before, and just by that, I can see this as an excellent choice for self defense (as well as normal use).

Right now, I don't have a dedicated self defense knife. The only thing that I've been carrying for the past month or so is my large Sebenza, so I guess that would work if I ever really needed to protect myself.

I carries a benchmade 31 everyday,it's a 'real' EDC,but,include self-defence?--i hope it so..
btw,i think spyderco c10sbk is a good choice for u purpose //

I also carry the 806D2 with the thought that if the sh*t hit the fan, it could be used as a weapon.

The three knives I carry for self defense are...my 806D2, my 551 or if I'm going out to bars(where most fights happen) I carry one of my Spydie Dragonflys. I like taking my Dragonfly with the Spyder Edge...as little as this knife may be you know you could F someone up with it. Plus...if the cops come I wouldn't care about tossing this thing somewhere. I would be very pissed if I ever had to ditch one of my AFCK's!

No sir, officer. I carry my knives as tools. These are dedicated cutting instruments... however, if it was a BG that needed cutting.....

Cain't says I carry with self protection first and foremost in mind, but I do tend to be sure my knives are sharp, easily accessible, and have a secure lock up. I carry two constants. First is a Benchmade 806 Axis lock AFCK. I carry it tip up, usually right front pocket. Nuthin' fancy. I have three zip ties through the hole to enable a "waved" type of opening.

Second knife is my Emerson La Griffe that sometimes leaves my neck when I'm asleep, but that's about the only time. I love this little beast. Sharp as hell, easy to carry, and impossible to disarm. The most consistently knife that will be there when I need it.

I carry my knives as tools. I mostly use them to cut fruit, packages, and letters open. My Spyderco pocket folding knife is for camping uses and dangles off of my goretex jacket. I keep a knife in the care for any utilitarian uses such as cutting rope or tape on for packages. I may use it for emergencies.

Why would I carry a knife for defensive purposes? I have never had the need or intent to use or draw a knife defensively when a self protection situation has come up. What are you implying? Knives are tools. (O_o)

i would tend to agree with shmoopie
given that guns are banned in my parts, all the defense one needs is against someone's fists
against knives, i'd rather rely on slash resistant gloves because i'm much better with my bare fists than i am with knife fighting techniques (probably because i don't get any practice with knife fighting at all  :) )
my 2 cents :D

If I had to, I guess what ever EDC I was carrying that day. If I am going to go someplace questionable I would have a pistol with me. Since Michigan frowns on large knives. I guess if I did not have a weapon with me I would "Have" to rely on my EDC (right now that would be the Native I'm testing out)

Are you for real? Is this a joke? I've never had a car wreck, but I carry the best auto insurance I can afford, and I always wear my seatbelt. Just because you have never had a need for one for self defense, doesn't mean nothing will ever happen to you. There's always a first for everything.

Are you for real?! The only thing that banning guns does is prevent law abiding citizens from carrying guns. It doesn't prevent criminals who, by the way, are the ones you have to worry about, from carrying guns. If you think that just because guns are banned, that you don't need to worry about protecting yourself from some thug with a gun, you've got blinders on to the world.

Criminals and the government prefer unarmed victims.

Enough said,

Mike

When hiking I carry a 5" blade sheath knife. Ontario's Magnum Ranger Knife is my current. (would carry longer but Tx. law limits us to 5.5" blade length) I suppose if I were attacked and fighting for my life I might be tempted to draw and use it! :)

if I was backed into a corner I suppose the 3 1/2" spear point on my CRKT M-16 would be better than just my steel-toe Cats.

Medic Amen Brother. I have a bumper sticker displayed on my pickup truck that says just that. "Criminals and the Government prefer unarmed peasants." Guns are my #1 weapon of choice. Knives are 2nd.

I carry a 4" fixed blade as my EDC, more for a tool than weapon ( I live way out in the country). If a situation were really desperate, I would use it as a weapon. That said though, the prospect of cutting some bum and getting spattered with blood borne pathogens (HIV, Hep.C,etc.) doesn't really appeal to me. I prefer firearms by far.

I carry a Rekat Sifu. Sadly, I don't think these are currently still made. It has over a five inch blade of D2 steel and has a grip with deep finger grooves that you can choke up or down on. The knife is a full foot long when unfolded. It has an intimidating look that might end some trouble before it begins. In California they are legal to carry folded, in the pocket or using the clip.
