I love Bill Ruple's trappers. There are a few for sale out there on the web and my trigger finger itches every time I see one ..........
 
That is a River Valley Green Scout. It has strong, but not impossible to work with springs. I don't care for nail breaking springs either...just smooth and strong please.

I did a tiny bit of filing on mine with a needle file and then opened and closed it over and over. I also left the blade open at about 45 degrees for a while to break in the spring. It is nice now, like you said, strong but not impossible.

I have a Scout coming in Walnut Herringbone. I'm curious to see what it is like. Next will be a Pioneer in RVG.
