Looked at Carl's post on Frank H barlow & how worn it was! I have a stockman given to me that had all the blades sharpened to small blades.Owner had passed away they were all still sharp. So I got to wondering if any of "us"traditional lovers could limit ourselves to just "one" pocketknife .I've kept tabs on Carl posting & see where he has given most of his knives away.Don't know if I could! I no longer buy...don't need ,desire or want any more. I must admit I'm tempted to try .I do know NOT buying has saved me a lot of money. Sooo, guys that like me, have "numerous"pocketknives custom & factory ...look at them could you get by with just one?? Anyone want to try??

i tried it for one month earlier when I was really hesitant to use or carry any of my knives. most of my collection sit in their tubes or their boxes, minty fresh. It was at the encouragement of fellow knife knuts that I try to carry one knife, the same knife for a whole month. A banged up 2014 bladeforums jack was selected. It was a knife purchase that came from a slightly unscrupulous seller who misrepresented the conditions. I cleaned it up as best as i could. I have since passed on this knife to someone who I believe can do a better job at fixing it. Now, even tho I had an edc box where all my users go, they were more knives that just werent minty fresh and instead were purchased without a tube or box. I eventually got over it. Knives that came with issues became users, mostly my Schatt and morgan stuff. Of course, variety is the spice of life, I dont think I can carry just the one knife

Being a knife collector, I can't do it. With all these knives on hand it would be a shame to only ever use one of them. I've tried it and I just can't do it. The longest I've gone in recent times is a little longer than 1 year. Before I became a collector I would carry the same knife for several years but nowadays, not so much.

When topics like this come up I'm always reminded of John (1scooter) who posted this topic a few years ago. It's very common for a non knife collector to always carry the same knife until it's worn out but John was the first person I've heard of that did it despite the fact that he is also a knife collector.

Interesting post if you haven't already seen it.

Variety certainly is the spice of life.

That being said I have been carrying one of my knives for the past 3 days now and will continue to do so for another 4. I don't see the point in wearing one knife out through sharpening, stropping, and use when I can rotate them and keep the longevity of one knife's life for far longer.

People normal enough to use one knife until they need to replace it probably don't hang out here.

I've got one little knife that is always with me but it shares company with at least one and usually two more. Those two vary. I've got a bunch of knives and I'll likely carry them until I can't anymore. I'll let my heirs sort it out, if I don't have to sell them for some unforeseen or catastrophic reason first.

Here's my smaller then a Peanut, always with me Ohta. Carried in a Mission Wallet.

that stag is gorgeous! it begs to be carried, aging nicely i may add

Can't do it. I tend to carry 3+ knives everyday, hell I carry an Emerson when I go swimming. Tried, but just can't do it; also don't really have any safe queens either.
Thanks, Neal

Really, really nice Ohta by the way, would really enjoy one of his fixed blades, just never pull the trigger fast enough😎 or I'm broke when I can.

Yes... sort of. For the past 5-6 years I've carried the same Leatherman. There were times where I carried a folder alongside it but 90% of the time it's been Leatherman only. So yes, I could get by with only one pocket knife, at least from a purely objective, practical standpoint. Also, traditional knives IMO are all pretty much interchangeable (again, from a practical, objective standpoint). Whether it has one, two, three or more blades, they all do the same thing. They're small, thin, efficient slicers that ride nice in a pocket and look classy.

BUT, most knives don't have tools, and most multi-tools suck as knives. Mine is a Wave, which is one of the biggest ones they make. The combination of giant, heavy, un-ergonomic handle and skinny little blade always makes me nervous that my hand is going to slip and cut myself. No one knife is perfect.

Having options is the key. As your needs and tastes change, your knife should change too. For the past week or so I've been carrying my Buck 110 clone and it's nice to have more blade and handle for less weight and bulk, but I don't know how long it's going to last because I sure would hate to be caught without my Leatherman when I needed it. I'm pretty well known around my workplace as "the guy who fixes stuff" and I have a reputation to uphold! :p

I've carried my 22 everyday for almost a year now, but I often pair it with whatever else catches my eye. I am a collector at heart so I would never give up all my sharp shinies, but I'd like to see this one age and get that nice, pocket-worn look.

I carry just one rarely changing. Presently I'm trying out the new Case 'Beer Trap' after spending the past 2 years just carrying a Vic Explorer Plus. The jury's still out if I stick with the beer trap. As much as I think I'll miss all the functions of the SAK, I'm really liking that nice slime blade on the Case. Whichever I choose, it'll be the one stuck in my pocket for months on end.

I decide to only carry one knife from now on all the time. And two weeks later I pick another one to carry from now on... And so on.

I don't really have the heart of a collector. I thought I did but I don't. I have accumulated knives but I don't really collect them. I carry a GEC Bull nose in my right front pocket. In my backpack I have a GEC Bull Buster. I don't know how long I've carried the Bull nose. The only time it was out of my pocket was to put a patina on it as I went from a well maintained and oiled knife to having rust on it from sweat in my pocket in two days. While I was putting a patina on it I carried a stainless steel Case Sodbuster Jr. I do carry a Leatherman Wave put I don't use the knife very often at all. I carry it for the pliers and screwdrivers. My Bull nose and Bull Buster are 1095 a steel that I have come to appreciate very much. They both have orange Delrin handles. I guess it just took me awhile to find out what I really liked. I have to say it is really nice to have so many choice when it comes to knives but with the money that I spent finding out what I really liked I could have purchased a table saw. Sorry I don't have a picture.
