Anyone just decide to edc one knife

Looked at Carl's post on Frank H barlow & how worn it was! I have a stockman given to me that had all the blades sharpened to small blades.Owner had passed away they were all still sharp. So I got to wondering if any of "us"traditional lovers could limit ourselves to just "one" pocketknife .I've kept tabs on Carl posting & see where he has given most of his knives away.Don't know if I could! I no longer buy...don't need ,desire or want any more. I must admit I'm tempted to try .I do know NOT buying has saved me a lot of money. Sooo, guys that like me, have "numerous"pocketknives custom & factory ...look at them could you get by with just one?? Anyone want to try??

When I was a young man in the 70's and 80's, I only had one knife for daily carry. It was a Camillus-Buck 303. I carried it daily for over 10 years.

Now I have many knives from which to choose. I like it that way and am unlikely to return to a single knife.

Monogamy is great for marriages, not so good for knife knuts.

Browsing the threads has exposed me to way to many knives to only have just one. Knives that are not allowed to be posted here on the porch and others such as Puukkos, Kukhuri, customs, Spanish and French, and then there are the different steels. The hobby just wont allow me to carry only one. Doesn't mean I buy all the ones I want though.

Another personal reason is the "dad's knife" and "grandpa's knife" idea. It wouldn't be fair to my daughters and hopefully one day grandkids to only have one knife with a story attached. ;) I'd like each to have at least one of "dad's/grandpa's" knives.

Before I really got into traditionals, I carried the same modern knife (a Benchmade) every day for probably close to 10 years.

Traditional knives IMO are all pretty much interchangeable (again, from a practical, objective standpoint).

I would say this is as true for modern folders as it is for traditionals, if not more so. Probably part of the reason I carried that same Benchmade for so long.

Of course, from a practical standpoint, any of us could carry only one knife. Most of our grandfathers carried what we now call a traditional knife every day, and I doubt many of them had cases or drawers full of different patterns and variations. They had one knife, and if they wore that one out, they got a new one.

People normal enough to use one knife until they need to replace it probably don't hang out here.

Ain't that the truth. :D

I made a post here once about my upcoming 90 day one knife challenge. If i remember correctly i made just over 30 days. :o So no, i could not carry only one but part of me wishes i could.

I like variety..... I generally always have a peanut on me, but I have a few peanuts and I am looking at another couple.

I think Woodrow sums up my style pretty well - I carry a Medium Stockman 95% of the time (and have a dozen of them in different brands, frames, handles, etc.) but I also have many others of different patterns that get occasional carry - just for fun. OH

One post moved to "Traditional and Modern Pairings" thread. That's the thread for talking about Spyderco mixed with traditional.

I carry two pocket knives. One is always a 77 Barlow for the past year and a half now. The second knife varies amongst a few that I have depending on the day. But that 77 Barlow never changes. It's become The One. Over time I'll gift or sell the others and keep a handful for special purpose tasks or applications. But The One will always be in the right front pocket.

I've got one little knife that is always with me but it shares company with at least one and usually two more. Those two vary. I've got a bunch of knives and I'll likely carry them until I can't anymore. I'll let my heirs sort it out, if I don't have to sell them for some unforeseen or catastrophic reason first.

Here's my smaller then a Peanut, always with me Ohta. Carried in a Mission Wallet.

I just found out Gary, that you could be my dad or some other relative from New York. :D

Seriously, nice knife! :)

I have been on a quest for the last few years to find the "One" knife that I would carry daily the rest of my life. I went from stockmans to sodbusters to single blade lockbacks and everything in between. I am now on day 10 of only carrying and using a Case Peanut. It turns out, that is really all I need for my daily use. Credit for that goes mostly to Carl's testimonies and stories. I think I am getting down to real world use and choosing a Case medium jack. I have the 22087 in black delrin and I believe that to be about the perfect size and pattern for me. As Goldilocks says' "It's just right". I gathered up the whole accumulation of knives I own and put them away for a while to force myself to use only a couple of peanuts, the medium jack and a SAK Cadet to see what would happen for 1 month. I am happy with how this experiment is coming along. I wish Case would offer the rounded bolster '87 pattern in CV and nice bone though. My Gail knife I suppose!

I carried just one when I was much younger, then added a Cadet and carried two.
These days I could pick one and carry it, I just don't want to. I like a little variety now. :)

I've been looking for "the one", but haven't found it yet. I've gone through so many patterns and I prefer trappers and stockmen the most. I like to carry the trappers in an open top sheath, but my sheath spot is always taken by a Buck 110 or 112. The 110 or 112 is a whole different argument I have with myself almost daily. I switched between a large and medium stockman, and decided I prefer the medium size so I've been carrying one of those more often. I love sheepsfoot blades which is why I've taken to stockman variations as of late. I would like to try a single blade sheepsfoot one of these days. Until then, I'm, going grab a sowbelly stockman in the next couple weeks and see how that works for me. I think that might grab a spot in my pocket for a while.....

I tried that a time or two, but just didn't take, so, I gave up that idea, while it seems like a grand scheme, it never did sit well with me ;) but, at least I did give it some thought !

and threads are just no fun without pictures, so here's my latest carry, love the lines of a sowbelly folder!

There was a time when I only carried one knife because I only owned one knife. I bought the knife because I needed it. Now I have lots of knives. I don't need them, I have them for fun. Most of them are knives I can carry, so why restrict myself to one?

Heck yeah, it's why I got into traditionals, to find it. Search still continues for the grail though..

I tried to pick just one to carry, but couldn't do it! I choose my knife in the morning, and there are certain knives that get picked more often but they all get their chance.

I think I've been looking for the grail pattern, not just a particular knife. If it's a medium stockman, I'm going to have quite a few of them. It already happened when I thought trappers were it (before I discovered how much I love the sheepsfoot). So, now I wait until my Case sowbelly is ordered and see where that takes me. Sometimes the anticipation is one of the best parts of this hobby...

I have a lot of pocket of knives. Why would I decide to only carry one of them?
The point in time when that decision would have been wise was when I had bought my first one. Too late now.
