Anyone just decide to edc one knife

When I first started seriously looking at knives, or obsessively I should say, it was customs. I had bought a Case 63032 that I carried for several years occasionally pocketing a new purchase. I think my collecting was more, as some of you guys said, looking for my Grail knife. I had a short love affair for modern folders, and found a passion for hunting for old folders. I still look in antique shops and flea markets for oldies. These days I pretty much only carry one. I've always been a stockman fan, and in 2013 I found a GEC 81 and I'm calling it my Grail knife. Took a little bit getting used to it in my pocket but I find the 4 inch to be more rugged than the medium stockman. The steel liners probably help. Once in a while if I have to get dressed up I'll put a medium Case stockman or a Copperlock or a GEC 83 in my pocket.

I love the look of that 81! I've never been a huge fan of Case Stockmen, mostly because I prefer a wider blade and wider handle. I like knives to melt into my hand, and I find that with a lot of case knives, I have to pinch them instead of gripping them like say an opinel or modern folder. One of the reasons why I'm a fan of GEC is how they make their knives with wider handles and blades. I'm gonna have to keep an eye out on the exchange for an 81!

After carrying it for some time going back to a 3 5/8 feels too small. I had to cut a piece of one inch braided hose one day at work and I happened to be carrying my 6318. It was sharp but the blade was too small to cut it easily. I kicked myself for not having the 81. I wonder if someone makes a slip with a clip on it? I happened to be wearing pants where the size of it was uncomfortable.

Good to see you posting here again!

collectorknives.net has a few slips with a clip attached that look like they would work very well. I think knivesshipfree.com recently introduced a new leather slip called the Insider with an attached leather clip. I'm not sure how to describe it but I thought it looked very useful.

Thanks Rick!

i used to carry a KA-BAR kharon, until some "nice person" thought because it was a KA-BAR it was indestructible, then proceeded to snap bout 1/4" of the tip. now i carry a cheapo kershaw stonewash

I did for about six months in 1991. SAK Huntsman. Then I added a Gerber Bowie when we reached Alaska and picked up our survival crates we'd mailed to ourselves. In 1983 I did six weeks in Israel with only an Air Force Jet Pilot's Knife. And in 1987 three months in the UK and Europe with only a Wirkkala puukko.

I've rotated a lot, it seems, and at one time I thought I had found my one-and-only in the SAK Trekker/GAK, but I keep finding my only knife on daily chores being the carbon Opinel N°10.

So, yeah.
