Selling a few things in the exchange, anyone know how I can steer clear of getting charged paypal fees? Specifically how to properly make it the buyers responsibility to pay the fees?

Going by PayPal regulations, it is the seller's responsibility to pay the fees.
So there is, by definition, no way to properly make it the buyer's responsibility.

Don't even mention fees. Just charge a price for the knife that includes what you need for fees, shipping, and the item itself.

Hrmmm I see...thanks for the tip. I appreciate it.

PMOs are also cheaper unless the item is less than $30, and substantially cheaper on items valued in the hundreds of dollars, and don't leave much of a paper trail. They are also fairly difficult to counterfeit, much more so than a bank money order.

Just add it in, unless your offering a USPS MO option.

If I'm selling a higher end knife I'm going to start giving a 3.5% discount for people that want to use a USPS MO.
I have a small rural PO just at the end of road, and they cash them right there making it easy enough for me to offer a 3.5% discount if using USPS MO. Two nice looking ladys there as well.

Ken44, just to let you know, offering a discount on money orders is also a violation of PP rules. If you offer a set price including PP and discount it for MO, you're saying you charge more for PP.

These sales are not precision machinery. What do the prices mean after you call a price drop? Just total your costs, ask for what you need to cover them, and drop the price as little as possible: wait for the interested buyer. If you drop too much, no one will bite. They'll wait for the next drop, and the next ...

How is it "properly" the buyers responsibility? When you pay by credit card the merchant is charged 3% of the sale by the credit card company.

Do people go around asking more if you pay by CC? What do you think would happen to a merchant that did?

Some things to think about.

Actually yes. I don't know about where you live, but merchants charge higher prices around here if you pay by CC.

I'm going to close the thread. Esav answered my question.
